You really can't go wrong with any cask from this parcel, and this release from The Whisky Exchange is no exception.
    • Nose
Notes of dried seaweed, iodine, herbal peat and charcoal first appear, but there's also a hint of rosewater, bung cloth, aniseed and milk chocolate. Such a treat.
    • Taste
Cigar smoke, ashes and earthy, but surprisingly juicy and well-rounded, more so than similar Ledaig I've tried. Soft forest fruits, touches of citrus and menthol, but also smoked paprika powder and leather.
    • Finish
Peaty and more of the above. Long.

    Whiskyfun.com (Angus):

    Colour: gold.

soot and menthol cigarettes to begin. This very attractive leathery and camphor mix of peat and gentle sherry which works very well. You can also add some walnut skins, mineral oils, smoked mint tea and smouldering pinecones. Really impressive nose so far I have to say. In time there’s also some hints of shoe polish and game meats.

    With water:
an added layer of treacle sweetness, then caraway, cinnamon buns and smoked olive oil.

wonderfully rich, complex smokiness. Leathery, gamey and full of ink, soy sauce, miso and camphor. Also this wonderfully tarry side along with black pepper, smoked black teas and rather a lot of hessian. Quite beautiful and there are even these wee moments where you could almost get glimmers of 70s Ardbeg.

    With water:
gets fatter, brinier and there’s this lightness of touch from the mouthfeel that keeps everything very easy and pleasurable. Goes full circle back to ink, tar, mentholated notes and medical notes of TCP and iodine drops.

long and bristling with leathery smoke, stout beers, liquorice, antiseptic, dried herbs and a kind of sweet and rooty peatiness.

Terrific wee sherried Ledaig that feels modern in the very best of ways while also nodding slyly at the past. And the balance between sherry and peat is pitch perfect here. Recommended!

    SGP: 566 - 90 points.

Tasting Notes by Billy Abbott, The Whisky Exchange

Medicinal peat, damp grass and tar float out of the glass, followed by dried mango, chocolate limes and sherbet lemons. Hints of mint and menthol hide at the back, slowly building with time in the glass.

Rich and smoky, with dark chocolate, cinder toffee and candied lemon balanced by charcoal smoke and earthy peat. Lime zest and peel float through the middle, with black liquorice and menthol following behind. Notes of singed fruit cake develop.

Leathery smoke, lime and singed raisins slowly fade.

A classic sherry-cask Ledaig, fusing dark fruit and liquorice notes with rich charcoal smoke and leathery notes, as well as showing the whisky's underlying fruitiness.

Quite fruity with herbal eucalyptus notes and plenty of smoked seaweed and salt. Very smooth and not as heavy as the ABV would suggest. An lighter drinker than perhaps some of the deeper more brooding mid 2000's Ledaigs.

what's most surprising is the absence of almost all alcoholic burn in the nose.. the aromas are soft-whispering, tightly packed together and create a unique mix of mint-tobacco-leather-peat.. and i get an uncannily strong whiff of freshly baked blueberry muffins
    • Taste

very sweet, tasty and fruity.. the heavy stuff comes later (tar, soot, spice from the wood) but still on a friendly surface of sweet medicine
    • Finish
      89 89
delicate.. around mint and eucalyptus oils.. not sweet (ok, a bit sweet), not bitter, not even spicy.. just a breeze, really.
