Whisky Reviews for Ballechin 2007 vW

- A luscious and complex Ballechin. Such a good style and pretty overlooked in my opinion. I'm fine in keeping it like that.
I've had a younger Ballechin bottled by Van Wees before and that one was a cracker. Peat, smoke, iodine, sauerkraut, grilled beef, orange, apricot, pineapple, cranberry, chocolate covered raisin, marzipan, almond, paprika powder and balsamic vinegar. Good balance on peat and sweetness.
More peaty here and not that much of a burn. Alcohol is integrated very well. Peat, ash, smoke, brine, iodine, bacon, apricot, bloodorange, raisin, passionfruit, chocolate brownie, cookie dough, marzipan and sour cream. Love the balance between the peat and sherry cask. Just in the right proportions.
Long finish. Dark chocolate, creamy malt, stale beer, fudge and orange peel.
Light smoke, more sweetness, more PX, alcohol is also there, but not pungent, some vanilla in the background, a good but not exciting whisky.
Good start, but not spicy or pungent, sweetness, bitterness, some apricot fruit, smoke in the finish.
Remains on the palate for a long time, bitter, but not very complex.
- Very full whisky, fruity and sweet smoke. Nose is a little better and surprising then the taste, but overall a good whisky which remains in the mouth for quite some time.
Fruity, sweet smoke, clear sherrycask influence. Fake leather. Strong, pretty much alcohol, and grassy, hay, with some clear cow stable smell now.
Strong, fruity, honey, some red fruits. Sweet smoke, pretty full taste. Licorice as well.
Still pretty strong, red fruits, with a sweet smoke, caramel, honey, some tobacco. Licorice, pretty long finish.
A bit leather, iron, coffee...
Hints of dark chocolate, a bit coffee, but also some vanilla sweet... Not bad i must say.
Again chocolate/coffee, a bit bitter, but not unpleasant.
- Blind Ulimate tasting 24-4-2020.
Best of 6 bottles of nice Ultimate whisky's. By far.
Full bodied, 2th fill sherry cask. Pure, raw, no bullshit, enjoyable and at 85ppm not fot the faint hearted.
