  1. Kensay scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

This is the top league, one of the best barrel ten. Solid, dense, seemingly restrained, but at the same time a whole extravaganza of tastes and aromas. It's a thrill
    • Nose
      91 91
discreet, smoked dried fruits in smoke, a drop of iodine in a ripe cut sweet pear. Further, the smoke becomes denser, it envelops, sea salt, antiseptics, menthol, drugs, smoked plums
    • Taste
      90 90
smoked dried fruits in salt, ripe fruits, lots of tart sweet pears in smoke, excellent. Restrained, capacious and very integral
    • Finish
      90 90
marmalade in sweet smoke sprinkled with salt, old sherry, some spices

I try the second batch together with the first and fourth. The same melon, but much more smoke and varnish, while the taste seemed to me more interesting than the first one.
    • Nose
      89 89
Smoked, rich smoke, as if you went into a room inside which a fire is burning down. Varnish, melon, even lettuce, yellow pear. Smoked dried fruits.
    • Taste
      90 90
The taste is very smoky, burning, varnished, sweet.
    • Finish
      89 89
      Fruity, smoky, sweet, fiery.

Aroma: Smoke, earthy peat, a fire extinguished by stone fruit, dates, with a slight hint of vanilla.
Taste: Sweetish, fumes of smoke, fried almonds, with notes of medical iodine and algae, dried fruits. The taste is very dense.
Aftertaste: Very long and sweet with lots of peat and soot, very rich and pleasantly balanced. Nothing in this whisky sticks out at one stage, everything harmonizes perfectly.
General conclusion: Yes, I am not indifferent to Laphroaig, and after trying this release I realized that I fell in love with him even more! This is the best I've tried whisky at the moment. Very nice to drink

N: Clearly more 'modern’ than the original batch, being a more mineral, herbal & sherry-ish nose with sweet dry fruity shoe polish and sweet putty. Becomes pretty decent when given the time.
T: The abv strength hits as does the smoke. Soon the medicinal< malty fruits begin to sing. Develops fresh & natural, becoming fruity & malty medicinal with water. And then the barley sings,.. turning more milky.
    F: Stays peat fresh.
C: Better than batch #001 by a whisker. A very good day indeed.

I am doing a horizontal Laphroaig 10 CS tasting between 002, 003 and 005 and they are all so very good but quite different tastewise, would go for the 003 batch if I had to pick one, but complaining on a very high level, if you only have one of the other 2 - be happy and just enjoy it.

just for the sake of scoring them
    batch 002 - 89p
    batch 003 - 90/91p
    batch 005 - 88p

[November, 2011]  I had this dram during a Prof. Schobert "Islay" tasting at Bonn.

    In
my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50
    - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 87,5.  My notes state "another nice Laphroaig" but I liked Batch No. 3 better...

At 10 CS you know what you get: Full pipe peat smoke and a nice fruit note. This batch still has this beautiful damp forest floor in the nose. Never boring or arbitrary. Always a great, great single malt.
    • Nose
Peat smoke - natural - and, surprisingly, musty damp forest soil. Only slightly phenolic, but a nice touch of red apples. Salty and slightly peppery. Loamy. The damp forest floor is preserved for a long time.
    • Taste
A torrent of peat smoke spills onto your tongue, candied fruits tumble over too. Despite the cask strength rather velvety and soft, nice full and oily. Good balance between smoke and fruit.
    • Finish
Long, soft and warm finish with smoldering campfire and baked apples.

  17. Bosi scored this whisky 88 points Specialist

Unmistakably a Laphroaig but with much more depth and complexity than the standard 10s. The only drawback for me is the lack of balance between the different flavors.
    • Nose
First, I notice overripe bright fruits, followed by the classic phenolic smoke. Behind it is a lot of sweetness like caramel and a touch of salt. With some time Apple stands out.
    • Taste
After the burnt campfire and black pepper, Fudge's sweetie takes command. Only after adding water, the sea flavors get through properly.
    • Finish
Very long finish, with sweetness and smoke fighting for the vorschafft and even here after the addition of water salty flavors almost completely replace the sweet.

A great Islay malt that unites strength, complexity and character in an almost unique way. May he stay with us for as long as possible!
    • Nose
Significant peat smoke and in a very pleasant way musty. Old hemp rope, seaweed, sea salt and shells, much like an old fishing boat. Then this typical heavy, rotten sweetness, like overripe, slightly gammeliges fruit. The medical iodine notes, on the other hand, are somewhat in the background.
    • Taste
Mild and oily, followed by intense sea flavors. The iodine sweetness and the hemp rope are stronger now, the peat smoke is very complex and manifests itself in different earthy notes. Very complex and exciting.
    • Finish
Smoky and slightly salty, it peels off, iodine and peat are still noticeable for a long time, the gum-fruit note also comes through sometimes. An interplay of flavors that last quite a long time.

  20. Helgo scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

The batch # 002 of 2010 has a wonderful nose. The phenolic smoke is not too dominant and lets you know the sweetness of this 10-liter cask strength right at the beginning. Many bright fruits. Powerful and very complex. In the mouth the already indicated sweetness, very harmonious and balanced, strong yet elegant. Slightly salty to the end, do not dry out, seaweed and some smoke remains.

    LAPHROAIG 10yo CASK STRENGTH / 58.3% BATCH: 002

Iodine incense that seaweed and sea breeze, creosote of excoriant round, sweet peach and somewhat mango, chocolate and soyish scent

Menthol expanding excitingly, the bitterness of grapefruit peel with an oily texture, the sweetness of a fruity feeling slightly

Bitter orange remaining in the nose and throat, acidity on the tongue, finish feeling faint tropical fruits.
Raffroy Current cask strength, called it batch number 2, that

Once you experience it you will unforgettable attack and finish

In a good way I make you feel a little different part.

Of course those who are experiencing Islay, what is Islay? I want people to taste

Exciting and unique scent and taste · · · even if it becomes a habit, we can not take responsibility (lol)

Everything is experienced. Because human beings' psychology is a thing that makes me want to step into the part that seems to be dangerous ...

Even so to say, the label includes the Royal Warrants of Prince of Wales (Prince Charles)

  23. Rom scored this whisky 90 points Expert Junior

Much less peat than the 004 batch on the nose, it is expressed in the form of bitter plants, with also honey, dust and toast. Thick texture, well integrated alcohol, peat. Final very long that starts on the bitter to end on pepper. More consensual and less typical Laphroaig than batch 004, excellent swimmer.

This is in our Laphroaig tasting pack. The above notes are Dominic Roskrow's. Other WTC members:

Michelles says "Pulls no punches, a real Islay heavy weight. Full-on petrol, peat, oily, sweet, rich, deep and full. Kicks butt in the flavour and ABV departments."

    Tony says

"I've come to the end of the bottle of this, I've compared it to batch 001 and the old cask strength and drank it with five other Laphroaigs, and I'm still a bit confused and conflicted. On the one hand, I think its fabulous. Against the others it stood out, its got a clean, sharp taste that is very appealing. On the other, when I've been sat at home drinking whisky, I've really enjoyed the first dram but have not enjoyed the second ass much, and moved on to something else. There is a light, floral, sweet quality that sits strangely with the general laphroaig taste. However, this is probably just reflecting my unsophisticated palate, all in all, its great!"
    • Nose
      Drier, with â€
    • Taste
Seaweedy. Both salty and sweet. Tar-like
    • Finish
Medicinal. Tar, phenol, peat, earth. A wonderfully complex whisky.

    • Nose
peat, more bandages than iodine here - but much less than batch 001, also quite a lot of spicy dry oak. Also sweeter, vanilla & marshmellows and with some green fruits, gooseberries, pears & kiwifruit, wet tobacco & bread, a touch rubber-y (diving flippers) / slight plastic-y,  also some very distant oranges. (88)
Later: turns a bit sweeter, vanilla cream pastry, also a few mineral/sandy notes as well. (89)
Spicier/sharper and more mineral than batch 001/003.
    • Taste
peat, buttery, but also a massive sweet artificial/plastic/perfume/parmamints/pears note upfront. (77)
then toast (w butter) & cereals, vanilla. (85)
    • Finish
      more peat, some smoke, fake pineapple/white gummy-bears, salty, a touch sandy/chalky (86)

  30. mbinder scored this whisky 91 points Expert Junior

a real laphie, not quite as complex as the red stripe 55,7%, but a nice pepperiness.
    • Nose
smoke, cattle stall, citrus fruit, decay
    • Taste
      stark, torfig, suess
    • Finish
explosion of pepper, but it stops quickly and the peat joins in a long finish.

  31. Feusi scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

    Nothing more to add....
    • Nose
A greasy smoke, sweet citrus and peat peat peat.
    • Taste
Sweet smoky and peaty with a lot of iodine.
    • Finish
      A long lasting peaty finish

  32. Zitch did not rate this whisky Member Junior

  33. Timo scored this whisky 79 points Expert Junior

This Laphroaig represents for me the return to the old 10 year old.
    • Nose
The nose is stinging. Peaty, smoky, iodine, medicated, phenolic.
    • Taste
The taste is medium. Peaty, smoky, vigorous, phenolic.
    • Finish
The finish is long. Peaty, smoky, dry, peppery.

  34. Quaker scored this whisky 91 points Member Senior

A young Laph in all its splendor.
    • Nose
Powerful by the degree of alcohol but without being aggressive. The first nose is worn on the wood, it must be allowed time to open and help with 2-3 drops of water. Our patience is rewarded ... The second nose offers beautiful fruit scents: we are on banana and red fruits. Citrus notes are also present with a lemon flavor. The peat helping, we are dealing here with a superb gourmet nose, a real tart treats. The peat then takes more and more top and at the end of the nose the whisky becomes more meaty and more marine.
    • Taste
Superb power, all that the nose has hinted explodes beautifully. A first sweet wave gives way to a tart wave. Then come the spices and subtle smoky notes. Liquorice is present too.
    • Finish
Long and classically on smoke and licorice.

  35. Roman scored this whisky 92 points Expert Senior

As an alternative to the batch 001 very successful. If you like some fruit in the Laphi you are in good hands here.
    • Nose
Peat, medicine, iodine, a hint of citrus
    • Taste
Strong, iodine, peat, a bit sprightly, again a subtle citrus note.
    • Finish
Very long and peaty. Citrus disappears quickly.
