A classic that is really top in terms of price-performance. You get a really voluminous, intense whisky that collects the aromas very well. Wonderfully complex and above all pleasantly smoky. This is strong but not intrusive and also allows the other aromas to unfold. Simply great!

      86 86
velvety soft but still strong smoke (no stinker ^^) in great maroon with maritime notes, light sherry sweetness, slightly sweet, long smoked ham, slightly tart, tendency towards some iodine, light citrus note, some tobacco, slightly leathery, slightly nutty and slightly malty
    • Taste
      87 87
sweet but still slightly bitter start, nevertheless gentle and soft, light spice, clear smoke note (more medicinal than the aroma), maritime notes (salt and seaweed), slightly fruity (tendency towards citrus), voluminous in the overall taste, some coffee, some chilli, some pepper, slightly oily
    • Finish
      87 87
medium-long, campfire smoke, minimally tart, sweet, again the salty maritime notes, clear oak, slightly spicy

The Lagavulin classic is kilned with a high proportion of smoke in the malt. The stills at the distillery are pear-shaped, allowing all of the flavors to be transferred to the condensers during distillation. The single malt then matures to perfection in bourbon and sherry casks.

This is a whisky you can get in a supermarket. Here in Belgium it costs about 70 euros. I have a few standard bottles that I will get in my local market. They don't have that many, but Laga, Highland Park and Talisker are among them. Laga is by far the most elegant one. I love it, it's awesome. Everyone who is not opossed to peat should try it. The development is great. Spending 70 euros on this will get you the whisky experience you want.

Good old Lady Laga! A stunning 16yo OB for a very attractive price! At least...that was my opinion some years ago. I haven’t had this one for a while now so I’m rather curious how I look at it after a few years more experience.
    • Nose
Classic islay nose! Sea, salt, peat. Very well balanced and a full flavored nose. Just lovely! It had a pine tree freshness to it with traces of leather and dried red fruits.
    • Taste
Incredibly gentle and not that peat focused one could expect after smelling the nose. Obviously there is smoke and peat but also there is orchard fruit and fresh seafood. It’s rather light bodied and feels a little thin though. A little higher ABV would make this a through the roof stunner.
    • Finish
The medium long finish continues to be gentle and sophisticated. Salted crackers, seaweed, iodine and bbqed beef and smoky bbq sauce.

This Lady Laga is still standing firm after all those years. This a treat for everyone that likes peated whiskies. From Beginners to experienced drinkers, nobody will get angry if you pour them a dram of this. Excellent P/Q ratio!

Smoke that is something in between ash and smoked meat, creamy sweetness and more food connotations. Bitter sweet oily on the tongue and a good solid finish that is like coal mixed with sweet food.

Classy and stylish Lagavulin. Perfect balance of peaty smoke, chemicals (like paint, acetone, creosote), spices and old wood. So we have something like smoked meat with notes of spices and deep sweet barley malt.

Room temperature when drinking: 16 ℃

Viewing Eyes: Amber Smell Nose: Smoked bacon, with a certain sense of fat, slightly salty and sweet in shellfish juice, plump sashimi, basil leaves, black pepper, cream cake, a little nutty oil, Dried fruits, the slight milky taste of figs reappears with smoke, a little cool toothpaste, ripe and thin juicy fruits, cherries, black berries, blood oranges, waking dough, dried malt, soaked in sea water The wood inside has a touch of sweetness. It smells very good, without the stimulation of alcohol at all. The mature Laga has faded corners for 8 years, but the clear spring water and mineral sense are still everywhere.
Taste Palate: Orange-flavored bubble gum, obvious black pepper, dried sweet potatoes, roasted sweet potatoes, babe squash, ice syrup, orange sauce, sweet food flavor, creamy nuts, amber walnuts, bitter taste is almost unnoticeable. At the end, familiar quicklime, alkali, minerals, rocks, herbs appear.
Finish: Medium-length, lighter, fresh peat, chalk ash, earth, faint sweet orange, tangerine, vaguely cumin roast and thyme body: light, like water, without weight, loose , A little greasy

    Nose: 90/100
    Palate: 87/100
    Finish: 86/100
    Body: 85/100
    Overall: 87/100

Overall: I didn't expect the body to become watery like this before drinking, and it was lighter and thinner after the entrance. Even though the wine almost couldn't carry it, fortunately it didn't taste so sweet, otherwise it would roll over. Watching Wenxiang alone is undoubtedly the first beauty. (From another angle, comfort yourself to have a drink without stress?) Coordination and sense of layering are also okay, but I think it is really a pity, I do n’t know what to say, just pray for a year
