I like this dram, might be this is a sherry finish Laga?
Amazing feel, first come out flavours are old wood, smoky & earth-tone peat, strong and deep, but I don't hate it. Need to take time to rest, the peat still strong but smoother, and coming out some dried and dark fruits, like berries or dark grape, beautiful Chinese black tea, nuts & old leather.

The feel like a strong and stylish old man sitting in a reading room.

      Smoke, old wood, earth-tone peat.
Dried and dark fruits, berries or dark grape, Chinese black tea, nuts & leather.

A hint of sea feel, deep smoke bacon, full of black tea, and deep-toasted tea leaf.

Short to medium but good, the taste like Chinese black tea.

opens up very slowly over time and has a clear, acidic missing note for me. To me it seems as if the "old man" is breaking down from time to time. This is number 4 and for me it is far behind numbers 1 and 2. If you include the price, you could have taken 2 bottles of Classic of Islay ...
    • Nose
The first impression is sour, then alcohol comes, the glass is set aside for 10 minutes ... the acid remains, some cowshed smoke muff that reminds of Ledaig, green bananas, bicycle tube, a teaspoon of water still elicits him Almond notes
    • Taste
dry, smoky and bulky, has plenty of steam when pure, then dilutes ashy campfire, rubber tires
    • Finish
but quite long lasting, mineral and again with a slight acidity

Peel and ashy, slight mint, some floral notes.

    Slight spicy only, nice.

Finish with some dark coffee for a while.

Similar to the 12 year old special releases from Lagavulin - just not quite as round.

  5. Tauti scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Lagavulin is out of the question: South Islay and est-1816 only allow this conclusion (Laphroaig and Ardbeg were founded in 1815).

I don't really know what to think of this dram. The spirit and the sherry go well together. But the wood (European oak) was already at work here. Marco has already brought out better things.
    • Nose
Wet old wood, salted caramel, bacon, mustard, medicinal peat, chestnut honey, sea breeze
    • Taste
Salty peat, iodine, seaweed, significantly drier than still on the nose, ginger, nutmeg, juniper berries, clear notes of European oak
    • Finish
      Juniper berries, salt, wooden bitterness
