Nose

From the bottle arise the typical old GF-Vanilla notes with cherry juice, truffle pralines, old Armagnac and all the dark wood qualities ...

Then in the glass again defined notes of old Armagnac and some Cognac, scouring powder, hints of solvent, wet rocks and old casks.
Old citrus notes (and much (slightly dried) peels) and slightly tart rum-jams join the GF-character.
Hints of peat and a bit of wood smoke give also some maritime impressions ...
Oak and spiciness (for example pepper) are present giving a dark atmosphere.
There are sweet peaches, tart tangerines, dark sour cherry jam, plum jam and from time to time the spicy vanilla that is typical for the old GFs (functions as a spice). Some marinade.
Everything rounds up and mixes together.
Chocolate, coffee grounds, butter bisquits, some spicy rum pot and a bit of brine ...
Later come dried apricots, chocolaty malt, some truffle pralines and fat leathery notes.
Notes of a cleaning closet appear, as well as wooden planks.

Taste

Just what comes to mind ... :

Jams, vanilla, big fruit sweetness, pralines, chocolate, brine, truffles, old citrus, chocolaty malt, some maritime impressions, wood spice, the atmosphere of an old lighthouse, dark cake, brandy beans, dark wood, coffee grounds with some old rum, slightly burnt wood, some tart beef, minestrone, 'Sauerbraten' with dumplings, Armagnac. Very elegant.
Later more smoky-salty impressions combined with jams and malty pralines, hints of a certain earthiness, hints of bergamotte, motor oil and workshop floor, some Demerara, very dark notes but the sweetness remains.
Hints of some bath additives (forest herbs), spices like nutmeg and others ...

Finish

Old Sherry casks, some resin, tart and old citrus, scouring powder, truffle pralines, Armagnac, spiciness, some wood smoke, tartness from coffee grounds, dark chocolate with vanilla pod.

A clear feeling of maturity and age.
More pralines, dark sweetness, some butter (and butter cookies) and oiliness, dark cherry jam, some rum pot, old nails in an old cask, some ginger, berry jams, dark cherry cake.
Slowly it is getting drier in a creamy way and is glowing in an elegant way.
Hints of dried rose petals and dunnage warehouse.

Imagine a living room with a fireplace, sitting in a leather armchair, an old Brandy poured and a ripe cuban cigar lit while you can still smell something of the wonderful dinner you had ...

Comments

A wonderful Whisky.

Classic.
It is more 'dark' and heavy then my first impression was smelling it from the bottle and the first time in the glass.

Tasting with Armin Fuchs.
