[July, 2018]  Unfortunately my notes got lost when I scored this dram 92.5 points about ten years ago - a very good reason to open a saved sample and re-taste it tonight.

The colour is tawny and the texture shows fat tears with slow legs.  The nose offers an adorable old-school sherry profile with chocolates, plums, figs, raisins, oranges and many more aromas in a faultless mix.  Very impressive and perfectly balanced - this is sherry maturation at its best.  The whisky arrives warming and charming on the palate and immediately covers all of the mouth without any distracting moment.  The taste is unusual complex for a 15-years old dram and consists of several layers that can be explored one after the other.  Starting with the delicious sherry the barley sugars kick in after some time before the spices/herbs and finally the fruits pop up.  The finish is very long and extends this superb taste into eternity (no, not really but it is close to…).  No flaw here either just a minor dryness from tannins at the very end (that is appreciated as a counterpart to all the sweet impressions before, actually).  Water turns the dram even sweeter and more quaffable but I like the elegance and balance of the neat dram better.

I am pretty sure they added some casks much older than 15 years to this batch (e.g., if they had fallen below 40% abv).  Unfortunately, the different batches of this 15-years old are almost impossible to identify before opening and tasting a bottle - so it is a little bit of a surprise which one you own (if you own one).  But all I tasted so far were excellent and they were pretty cheap when released in the seventies and eighties (of the last century).  Great stuff that is gone forever (because of the Paxarette ban of 1989), so sad...

[April, 2008]  I had this dram during a MaRa rarities tasting at Limburg.

my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50
    - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 92,5.  Unfortunately my detailed notes were lost but I remember it was a dark sherry vatting.

Nose very melted, very fine. Good elegant sherry. The OBE has made its effect. Perfume, baked cake, macerated grapes, prunes with Armagnac. Very nice nose.

Entry very pleasant, sweet, melted, slightly creamy and sweet, on plum, macerated grapes, fig, dark chocolate, coffee bean. So greedy. The problem is that it lasts very little.

Final unfortunately quite short, and dry, on spices, and a lot of coffee. Vegetable traces. Below the rest. For coffee lovers.
