Balanced but massively full of flavour. Balanced strong Sherry influence with a long full finish.
    • Nose
      90 90
Sherry is immediately front and center with light rose aroma. Further nosing gives typical dark fruits, chocolate and cocoa. Lovely nose but be prepared to spend time as it has lots to offer.
    • Taste
      90 90
Powerful arrival and development very rich with very rich dark fruits. Builds rapidly giving a mouth filling flavour bomb that those with less whisky experience may battle with. However for those with broad palettes a flavour bomb with a huge mouth feel.
    • Finish
      91 91
Long deep finish with only very light tannins leaves you licking your lips wanting more. Medium spice and all things nice..

Hit or miss with this one, depending on how well you swing with sulphur notes - I don't.

Surprisingly light, first note is rose petals, then toffee, varnish, vanilla, slight leather, very little bit of dry herbs. Not picking up the sherry notes, really. Bubblegum. After tasting, sulphur comes out in the nose as well.
    • Taste

Massive alcohol bite, warm, peppery, good dose of cane sugar sweetness, some vanilla, oak, barley, starting to become bitter. Second chew unfortunately brings a massive punch of sulphur to the mix, and then a bit of brine. At this moment it's basically salty caramel with sulphur on top, I'm having trouble getting through the glass. Third chew is sulphur all over, very unpleasant. I'm not enjoying this at all.
    • Finish
      76 76
Still fairly sweet, peppery, spicy oak, cane sugar, luckily the sulphur has faded away, but still it leaves nothing really spectacular behind, either. Not worth going through the sulphur battle to get here, at least.

Immediately after pouring, this came out with a strong smell of paint thinner. After leaving it to settle, the PX cask comes out strong, with all the dried fruits and vanilla.
    • Taste
      86 86
A very smooth entry makes way for the high ABV, but still nicely balanced sherry profile, with dried fruits and woody spices.
    • Finish
      84 84
Medium-long finish - mostly wood spices and some toffee sweetness, followed by a little vanilla.

Fragrance: sweet. Weak vanilla. Sweet canned plums. Berry sugar, maybe strawberries. Hint ad herbal tea.
    Taste: Spicy. Perfumed fruit.
Aftertaste: Long. Fruit ala pear, both sweet and slightly acidic.

Very waxy in both taste and scent

  8. dramspotter did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

SMWS Tasting Notes: A fantastic deep amber colour was followed by an aroma which transported some of us to Jerez eating a slice of jamón Serrano next to a bowl of black olives, while others were in the Caribbean sipping rum and eating dark chocolate. Strong, powerful and fierce like flamenco with the feisty rhythm of percussion and guitar – a belter of a dram! With water we could sense the stomping of the dancer on the floor while the tune on the palate now more like a rumba – elegant and breathtakingly beautiful. After five years in an ex-oloroso butt we transferred this whisky into a first-fill PX Sherry butt.
