  1. Allandale scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

    Long aftertaste. Strong firm body.
    • Nose
      Intense. Sweetish, smokiness. Coconut. Grapefruit.
    • Taste
A very lively interplay of flavours, with malty sweetness fruity easternness and peppery dryness. Perfumy of thyme?
    • Finish
The flavours come together in a rousing finale, with the alcohol  providing a back beat.

  2. Master Quill did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

I bought my 55.0% in 2003, so maybe this isn't 2006 ór there are more versions bottled at this strength...

  3. Ivynor scored this whisky 83 points Expert Senior

Much below the Caol Ila CS 59.3% released a few years later. Not bad but a bit young.
    83+ / 84 -
    • Nose
Fine peat, iodine, ashes. slightly sweet. A little lime and a "synthol" effect certainly linked to youth =)
    • Taste
Not very creamy, quite sweet, on the earth and herbs. Delicately tart, but still very young
    • Finish
Dry, on the hay and the earth

  4. Rom scored this whisky 89 points Expert Junior

Alcohol is well integrated. A little greenery, lime and smoke. Always the presence of this verdure in the mouth, ashes, lemon and a tangy side. Long finish on smoke, ash and lemon. Made young, vegetal. In the second pass after several months of opening, the plant side has largely faded in favor of farm notes, always the acid in the middle of the mouth and then a finish marked first by a thick smoke and then by a crushing ash. Very well done but you have to give him time.

  5. HunterRomario scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Especially the smell of scent at me, the taste of adding water slightly disappointed, so I would rather not judge, without it is sharp enough. Some of the stronger whiskys did not come to me that way.
    • Nose
Pile of sweet, sharper peat, honey, a bit of rubber and smoke. (86 b)
    • Taste
Without water sweet, sharp, smoky. The water's sharpness persists, a bit sorry. Otherwise, peppery, very graceful, reminiscent of ash. (84 b)

  6. Feusi scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

For me the "mother" of all Caol Ila`s. Medical and refreshing in the nose. Warming sweet with a hint of smoke. After such a dram there is nothing more going on, the taste buds of the tongue are exploding, they jump out of your mouth and even if you just enjoy the sweet warm aftertaste, you are dreaming on Islay, sitting on the shore and looking to the paps.
