  2. Thermidor scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

A meatier, fuller version of the 13yo. Pleasing, of solid quality, and IMO a welcome upgrade on the younger version.

Tasted in a lineup of these Craigellachie OBs:
    13yo (82 pts.), 17yo (84), 19yo (86), 23yo (89), 23yo Exceptional Cask bot. 2017 @ 46% (87), 19yo Exceptional Cask #128 55,4% (91) and 21yo Exceptional Cask #5009 @ 55,7% (90).
    • Nose
More of that distillate sulfur than in the 13yo, so some meaty or cordite notes. Also more fudge, some soft oak, faint grass, cloth, and butter, and that tropical fruit note that comes with the distillate.
    • Taste
Feels more mature and rounded on the tongue than then 13yo. Weightier too. I really like these subtle mature oak touches. There is a bit of booziness to it, but just a few drops of water dispel that if necessary. There is a wisp of peat smoke here as well. I get a drying feeling in my gums when I keep it in my mouth for a while.
    • Finish
The finish is dry, more so than expected. I think it falters a bit here, and would earn 85 points without this little glitch. Some grass and pineapples.

I will not say that it is better than the 13th, but with such a difference in price, I would certainly advise you to take the 13th! If you don't look at his younger brother, then overall a very solid molt, pleasant at all stages.

Very typical Craigellachie, rich and flavourful. Floral, yet very cereal with notes of shortbread, toffee and spices

    Balance (21)
Not bad, but not worth overpaying for additional 4 years, base 13 is not worse. (85)
    • Nose
Apple, wax, tropics ... bright, fatty vanilla with pineapple juice. Chocolate with ice cream and carpentry dust, raw wood, varnish and aromatic oil for inhalation (22)
    • Taste
Spicy, fruit, vanilla, wax toros (21)
    • Finish
      Chocolate, grass, wood, pineapple (21)

Nose: lemon zest, malt, vanilla, caramel, marzipan, ripe banana, shortbread biscuit

Taste: beautiful fruit (peach / apple), creamy, malty, a bit bitter oak taste, strong salivation, noticeable pepper notes, nuances of chocolate

Finish: medium length and oily with some citrus, oak and a hint of dark chocolate

  16. Kovalyoff scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Be sure to let stand. 20 minutes is enough. Nectar should open.
Aroma: light honey, fruits and meadow flowers, a drop of varnish
Taste: creamy with bitterness, spices, fruits
    Finish: long, spicy and peppered.
Very reminiscent of Highland. In the blind, I would never have thought of Speyside.
    13 year old went better.
