A truly exceptional version of Octomore, no doubt about it! I had several, but this one stood out thanks to the very strong vanilla and citrus notes. Had a great oily texture on top of that. I am afraid that the price around 200 Euro might be justified in this case.

"Color" light golden yellow "smell" 63 degrees of wine body, but the aroma is open, bacon, rich and sweet, with some red fruits and honey "taste" is much softer than expected, full of salty and fresh, full flavor, and then some burnt Sugar, campfire, a bit of a roasted sweet potato or roasted chestnut 'aftertaste' smoky, and then some cocoa really shocked at how well-controlled it is, and how lively, contradictory and balanced as a peat wine , love it!

Probably the best peat whisky I have ever tasted before. Peaty and sweet. Chocolate and dry fruits.

Powerful octomore, wine notes are well integrated, strength almost does not interfere. 22-22-22.5-22.5

There are some whiskies which you know from the very first moments of nosing and tasting are going to be epiphany whiskies. They set off all kinds of reactions in your olefactory senses as well as providing memories of times already experienced. For me, this is one. Immediately the aromas rise from the glass I'm back on Islay - on a beach with a whiff of bonfire smoke on the salty air, a fresh basket of yellow and orange fruits laid out before me, complemented by an open packet of barley sugar and a tiny hint of menthol. What clarity!
    • Nose
Gentle sweet peat smoke unfurls in its wake intense barley sugar notes, a sweet-sour fruit combination of freshly cut summer apricots with a drizzle of lemon juice, a hint of vanilla, a lightly salty sea breeze and the faintest hint of menthol. What is striking is the way the peat smoke is integrated into this superbly varied fabric. Great start!
    • Taste
As the nose indicated, the arrival on the palate is gentle, with the malted barley notes (they seem so typical of Islay barley) again offering a delicious sweetness with overtones of honey and apricot juiceand carrying a hint of vanilla from the ex-bourbon casks. The development brings the now rising peat smoke and hints of brine to the fore, but these never dominate the overall taste experience, which with time in the glass allows the initial luscious sweetness to return on the back palate. Superb.
    • Finish
With or without water the finish is long and intense with some superb wine cask tannins emerging to firm things up as well as adding some fresh oak spice. This all hints at first-class selection of quality casks. I may be imagining it, but I get a final hint of dunnage warehouse that wraps this beauty up very nicely indeed. Probably my favourite Octomore.
