A very new style sherried whisky. It's alright but not my favourite whisky.
    • Nose
      88 88
Very sweet with dried fruits and berries, raisins and a hint of leather and polish. Apparently there's also smoke but i don't smell it.
    • Taste
      88 88
The same notes pass through in the taste. A little sting of the alcohol comes with it but it's going down smooth and without any fight
    • Finish
      87 87
A little chocolate and leather with a bit of tobacco. Very long.

A nice, somewhat unusual whisky, but goes well with other bottlings of the distillery. But in no way worth the crazy three-digit prices that are currently being charged for him in terms of taste.
    • Nose
At first very subdued, some lovage and tree resin, roasted aromas, caramel, mint, later a hint of wood smoke, minimal sulfur,
    • Taste
soft, dark fruits, sweet, fine smoke, slowly becoming peppery and stronger, chocolate
    • Finish
Medium-length, mouth-drying finish. Malt, spices, dark fruit, subtle smoky,

The best German whisky I've ever drunk. Of course, very much dominated by the PX sherry flavors, but not boring due to the great smoke. The alcohol strength is perfectly chosen for me.
    • Nose
At first, rather reserved in the nose.
It definitely takes time in the glass to open.

Then an elegant plume of smoke comes up first, it smells of iodine, old leather and charred cedar.
Behind it lies the oily and heavy sweetness of dark PX sherry.
Finally, some spicy oak and pipe tobacco appear.
    • Taste
Extremely oily, almost viscous mouthfeel. Perfect alcohol strength, slightly prickles on the tongue. The smoke shows up here again first, but is then quickly replaced by the excessive sticky sherry sweetness with lots of raisins and chocolate. Pleasantly spicy on the palate.
    • Finish
Mild, warming, sweet for a long time. Almost no more smoke.

Very rich sherry on the nose mixed with flowers, cranberry & blackberry,=.
After a minute or so rich moist cake notes, what is clear this has one of the most expressive noses of any whisky I have tasted.
Not sure what to think at the moment because I think it may be sulphured, it is so rich.

The palate is very rich and there is a healthy dollop of peat, masses of stewed dark fruits. I think there is a little bit of sulphur on show but it adds to the experience for once and the more I go on the palate seems to get richer. and the huge rich fruit sweetness mask any imperfections to be honest.

Water definitely tames this but it also releases quite a large spice kick and the fruit angle is a little sweeter.

Excellent stuff, what a surprise, never heard of this distillery but this is a really good whisky and I am no sherry head either. The reason I like it , is the fact the sweet juicy dark fruits smother your palate and never let it go.
    Good with or without water.

Umami and little sweet chocolate, very friendly finish, herbal sweetness

Very nice whisky, doesn’t feel young at all. With quite an unusual profile, which is rather unique. In short words, this dram is really tasty and quaffable even on its full strength. A very attractive expression despite its high price.
    • Nose
Smoky, sweet (but not very), creamy malt, leather, orange peel, dark dried fruits (figs, raisins), some chocolaty notes, a bit of dusty wood. Water releases notes of grapefruits and dried herbs, also amplifies wood.
    • Taste
Sweet, with mild spices (cinnamon, peppers, cardamom), mixed berries jam with leading blueberries. Orange marmalade, spread over burnt toast. Cold bonfire ashes. Milk chocolate notes with candied orange zest. Soft woodiness close to the end.
    • Finish
Medium-long, sweet, malty and nutty, tad leathery and woody, with wood coal at the end.

Nose: Round and creamy, with an unusual smoke, which I find not bad and refreshing, something else. Sherry sweetness, I need a little distance from the glass, the alcohol is a little stinging in the nose, but after a short time I don't notice it anymore. Shortbread, a real shortbread biscuit with pieces of chocolate in the nose with dried figs, plum jam, orange, raisins and spices or also slightly herbaceous. The nose is cool, I have to say achAfter a while, really Hanuta in the glass, blatant, I've never had that before. Horny complex malt!

Flavor: Full, voluminous, very memory-floating, sweet and spicy, lots of chocolate, caramel, oak, spices, a little white pepper, then very sweet, pickled fruit, red groats, then again the oak and chocolate accompanied by the beautiful smoke. Has a little bit of its honey barbecue sauce. At the second sip even sweeter, what for the lovers of barrel monsters!

Finish: medium length, with the chocolate, the strong sweetness, the white pepper, oak and the hot smoke. I am surprised that it really shows a lot of oak. The sweetness is very sustainable and could disturb one or the other, has a little bit of liqueur.

It is not for every day, at least not for me. A real dessert malt, the nose is to kneel down!

Very fruity and sweet, with very light smoke.
    • Nose
The smell is very fruity, sherry, raisins, caramel, chocolate, even more raisins and light smoke with wood.
    • Taste
Even more fruit on the palate, with very light smoke, a wonderful aroma spreads from wood taste and a lot of chocolate and sherry sweetness, really nice volume.
    • Finish
And again he adds in the sweet, very pleasantly not very light smoke.
I am thrilled and will order another bottle.
Very well done, I've never had such a good German whisky.
Respectively. noticed that this is not also Scotland. Respect.

A very nice mixture in the nose. The sherry influence is of course quite strong. Then wood smoke and greasy smoke. In addition, a certain spice and freshness.
In my mouth, the sherry is too dominant and sweet for me. The seasoning brings some variety. Still, that's too much for me.

impressive that such a young German whisky looks so mature and mature.

In direct comparison with the Willowburn (WhB 147705), the Willowburn wins overall, but I am very impressed by both!

An absolutely great successor from Pepin III.

Again we get a limited original bottling with a hint of local history (which I really think is great) in HoKi in Cask Strength with quasi age information.
And the whole thing is available for around 120 EUR.

Of course you can say again 120 euros is a lot of money ... That's right, but I am currently not getting anything better or comparable for the same price from SCO, we are talking about limited OA and not about independent bottler presses suitable (but not outstanding) ) Ex-Bourbon Malt without Distillery mention again in a wet sherry hoggie for finishing. And even if this is done, the price is rarely really lower.

With the minus of sweetness and the plus in smoke and spiciness, I find the Henry a little bit better than the Pepin. But as always, this will remain a matter of taste and again there will be people for whom it will all be too fruity or too smoky or too spicy or too German.
But especially in German on this whisky (actually the whole distillery) is not applicable.

We had the malt in blind tasting in our little club on the last weekend (instead of carnival), in the middle of islanders from SCO and the only thing one of 12 clubbers noticed was that it was not as iodine / salty as some others and the big one Community tip went to North Islay, Jura or Mull.
    • Nose
In the nose it begins with a slight hesitation, which means that you really have to give this malt its time before it really wants to develop. I don't know whether it's due to Cask Strength or something else, but there is whisky that sometimes takes longer.

After 20-30 minutes in the glass, Heinrich rewards everyone who has the patience.

Raisins, malt biscuits, fine peat smoke (ala Bowmore or Ledaig), orange peel, chocolate are the main aromas, with minimal maggot herb and fine oriental spices in the background.
    • Taste
The taste has no gigantic surprises in store, but that's not bad at all when it comes to the prospect.
Henry starts strong and minimally buttoned, but then opens quickly.
Great raisin notes (less oily and sticky, like the Pepin), long dark chocolate, greasy smoke, a hint of medicine and mandarin in the back.

With a little water (two splashes) Henry really lets off steam. The flavors potentiate, and then the spiciness comes out much better, which the nose had already promised and which I have been looking for in vain strength in vain.
And what I found fantastic was that the smoke did not decrease with the addition of water, but actually increased. This is something I have never seen in many smokers.
    • Finish
The finish is very smooth, even at full strength, with water of course all the more and you always have something fruity, smoky, spicy, chocolatey, cakey in your throat that you wish you would never want to end.

    • Nose
      89 89
At the start, leather and polish are noticeable to me, then a nice fruity sweetness of raisins, a little salt caramel and menthol. A campfire note is slowly being added to the spicy impression. The longer you sniff it, the more chocolate and sherry aromas appear. Behind the smoke there is a dangerously tasty sweetness with a light wood character. The alcohol is clearly noticeable, but does not bother ...
    • Taste
      91 91
A strong start, of course responsible for the barrel strength, tingles on the tongue, suddenly you have thick raisins and sherry sweetness. The campfire smoke is gradually noticeable but remains nice and discreet and does not become too strong and concise. Then some pepper, tobacco and wood come into their own. The whole really intense and thick.

If you add all the water you get to know Henry the IVth really well, the alcohol drops noticeably with just a few drops, the aroma almost doubles. The sherry sweetness becomes even more sumptuous and the whisky is surprisingly much more compact and intense.
    • Finish
      91 91
The finish is really fun ... it drags on due to alcohol, smoke and sweetness and remains palpable after some time. Light smoke and sherry turn something into sweet Maggi seasoning.

I call that a worthy successor.

After the really convincing Pepin III, I thought that the Emperor's Way is similar to some films: first top, second solala, third good.

But this is like Empire Strikes Back. Second part at the same level.

Great fruity notes, butterscotch, good alcohol, strong but not sprittig, smoke, orange, really very, very fine.

It's a shame that it costs a little more than the Pepin, but there's also 56.9% instead of 51.5% alcohol.

    Otherwise everything is done correctly:

    - limited special edition
    - detailed package insert
    - wooden box
    - Attractive design
    - Calculative age
    - a very nice barrel type

Really great job. Some island distilleries could cut themselves two slices, even if these products were only available from 250+ euros.

Follow-up purchase: Questionable because I stocked up with 3 bottles and 1073 bottles are finally finite. If there is still something in May, I would consider it very well.

Excellent quality that Elsburn has delivered.
Even if he still lacks depth and complexity due to his very young age, he can score with intensity and character.
    • Nose
      91 91
At first, dark fruits are noticeable, blackberries, wild berries, a little sweeter forest honey. After a while, a subtle smoke subsides but the fruit aromas. More like a campfire and wood smoke.
    • Taste
      91 91
Dark fruit notes merge with sweet nut and tobacco notes, you can taste the juicy sherry barrel aromas and a very subtle hint of smoke, slightly peppery, some chestnut and chestnut. The alcohol incorporated it very well.
A little water does not harm it and increases the variety of flavors.
    • Finish
      90 90
The aftertaste is intense and quite long. Sweetness mixes with bitter oak tones and accompanying smoke.
