Vault with Martin Markvardsen, HP Senior Brand Ambassador.
Golden. Nose: Vanilla, dish, fruit. Taste: Vanilla, sweetness, dish, fruit, honey. Well balanced.

It is best to drink such a malt alone so that you can spend a lot of time with it; Sipping this malt on the side or in large company makes no sense at all.
You can spend hours just with the nosing and always find something new - so take your time, the malt will thank you.
Sniffing it immediately after pouring brings a lot of aromas to the nose, but if you can breathe for an hour, there is a load of aromas that you can explore for a long time.
(my nosing was three to four hours long before I took the first sip)
In times when a 21er costs so much, you should deal with it sensibly and not swallow it like a supermarket blend.
I don't know a comparison to older bottlings, so I'm not biased.
all in all it was just enough; the variety of aromas in the nosing and the taste bring me to: [96 - 92 = great whisky -> I'll definitely get another bottle!]; the finish could have been a little stronger; But that's whining on a high level.
Unfortunately, the price is also an announcement, but we will probably never see the former prices again, even if the bubble should burst at some point.

earthy, musty (in a good way), heather smoke (more than expected at 21 years old), slight sweetness of vanilla, blossom and forest honey and toffee.
Brown sugar, almonds, hints of marzipan (this part is a bit reminiscent of the 18), dark creamy chocolate (mousse au chocolat).
Light spice in the background: nutmeg, cloves, some cinnamon. Typical sherry aromas, such as raisins, plums, cherries (Mon Cherie cherries) are somewhat delayed, but are then wonderfully harmoniously interwoven with the rest.
With the sherry note there is also an orange aroma, which I like with HP. The juicy and fresh orange goes well with the honey and vanilla aroma.
The honey becomes fuller and stronger over time. The earthy also comes back with a mineral touch, at the same time it also brings with it a "dusty library" with a leather armchair.
Delayed even further: musty wine cellar; dry red wine with oak tannins.
    • Taste
      93 93
      initially light heather smoke, sweet orange, creamy and voluminous; fine seasoning and spices, here too the heather appears again. Dark fruits, dark chocolate;
2nd Sip: orange again, dark fruits, heather, spice of nutmeg and cloves; typical sherry flavors spices, Maggi herb (but not too exuberant).
Forest honey/acacia honey, caramel, toffee, dark chocolate mousse.
    • Finish
      90 90
surprising amount of smoke out the back, it stays in the whole mouth; warming, tart dark chocolate/mousse; Oak tannins.
Overall medium to long lasting - especially the smoke (more than I would have expected from a 21). It all transitions into a dry tobacco moment.

This is my next HP 21 YO, this time from the November bottleneck.
For comparison, in order to enter the whisky from the Orkney Islands, I poured the 18 YO version to additionally assess whether it is worth paying the double price for the additional 3 years spent in the barrel.
And I must admit with all responsibility that it is really worth it. The 18 year old version was harsher, coarse and raw compared to the HP 21 YO, which is very soft, delicate. The sweetness and creamy texture are beating and encourage tasting. The sweet and dairy flavors remain on the palate for a long time. And most importantly, it's delicious!
    • Nose
      89 89
delicate, sweet, fruity, raisins, yeast dough with nuts and raisins, citrus
    • Taste
      91 91
creamy, sweet, white milk chocolate, vanilla, caramel, mango
    • Finish
      90 90
long, candy, cream, then caramel, with notes of chocolate, warming

Quick hit review. Whisky calendar - Day 8.

I really enjoyed the old HP21, but that was before all this Viking madness started. Anyway, let's give this malt a chance. Very layered and rounded, the nose combines orange peel, brine and whiffs of smoke. Fairly good balance on the palate as well, ranging from sweet, fruity and spicy flavors to subtle peatiness. Nutmeg, walnuts and tobacco fade in the medium finish. Maybe a tad weaker than its predecessor, but still a very fine dram!

Aroma, old dry wood, old furniture, mixed with vanilla and light Orcni peat, dry herbs, austere and very cool! The taste is bright and powerfully the same, there is a lot of dry old wood, not redone, just the same taste; sweetish iodine, wood dust, peat, association with an old Soviet building(or any old room); here also tannins velvety knit the palate, very cool!

    Appearance: straw yellow
Mouthfeel: Very mild, typical of a Highland Park, slightly dry not too weak
Nose: Sweet, fruity, typical Highland Park gorse, light sherry notes and a hint of vanilla
Taste: Slightly peaty, tobacco, a little oak and just a little sweetness, dark chocolate. That's it.
Finish: dark chocolate, still the smoke and tobacco, the slight sweetness remains, then slightly fruity in the interplay with dark chocolate
    Harmony: components fit together perfectly
Conclusion: For the money and unfortunately a bad PLV compared to the old 21er. Still a good whisky, unfortunately a bit thin.

The HP 21 is very balanced and has only a hint of smoke. Very tasty and harmonious, no bad notes or bitterness, a lot of fruit (apple, apricot?), Some raisins, light sweetness, even tolerates some water. Alcohol noticeable, but pleasant. Long finish.
