I was not a Springbank fan for a long time until I had a Springer 21 (2018) and one of Copper Monument (21 years) in my glass. I often don't like the younger ones very much, but the old things are a blast. This one confirms this. For the time being I only got a sample, but as long as it is still available at the issue price, I'll grab a bottle.

In terms of taste, I can only say: Preserved fruit compote, an incense stick from a little further afield and fresh lime grass. Then comes leather, vanilla, honey, almonds and mango. The whole thing is rounded off by a beautiful cherry mint. The finish is warm and very long, oily and chocolatey (60%)

The aroma is restrained, rich, sweetish. Herbiness, needles, many sweet citrus fruits.
We stood there and breathed ..... Spicy spices, cherry jam, vanilla, berry sourness, minerality. Noble tobacco, freshly baked pastries, red currants, raspberries. Honey in fumigated combs, a hint of an industrial theme, and motor oil ..

The taste is rich, thick, enveloping, buttery sweetish. Citrus fruits, vanilla, noble tobacco and wood, minerality, dark chocolate, berry jam, citrus zest, some spices, ginger.

Finish - enveloping, oily, long-lasting. A little spicy spices, honey comb, dark chocolate, ginger, tobacco. Long and pleasant woody sillage.

Conclusion: A noble malt, with whom you want to spend time. So restrained and aristocratic that he does not reveal all the cards at once, but, as it were, hints, give me more attention and your efforts will be rewarded at times. Word by word, you learn more and more about your interlocutor, new aromas and tastes open up, but this is no longer important.

    Tasting notes by SPRINGBANK:

Nose: Initially parma violets and rhubarb custard creams. A fresh spritz of grapefruit followed by a malty honeycomb sweetness.

Palate: Maturity and complexity at its best. A rich and chewy palate with vanilla, fudge, tobacco and cured meats.

Finish: Oh yes, it's definitely a true Springbank with those coastal and earthy dunnage warehouse notes combining with honey glazed ham and waxy orange rind at the very end.
