St. Kilian Signature Edition "Four" is the second smoky single malt from the Lower Franconian distillery. Original Scottish malt from Glenesk Maltings was used for this. The fourth Signature Edition matured half each in Andalusian Oloroso and PX Sherry barrels. The aromas from the barrels form a fruity counterpart to the strong smoke in the distillate.

    • German single malt whisky
    • Bottled with 48% ABV
    • Aged for 3 years in selected sherry casks from Andalusia
    • Double distilled in pot stills from Scotland
    • Smoke content: 54 ppm
    • natural color
    • not cool filtered
    • Made from 100% pure barley malt

A certain aroma of Islay pushes through the nose, albeit a very, very young aroma - if it has five more years under its belt, it becomes really interesting. But still: very passable for the three years.
    • Nose
      84 84
first a peat smoke rises in the nose. If he breathed something, the peat smoke is no longer so prominent and an earthy aroma with a certain amount of nut (almond, hazelnut) comes through. The peat smoke then swings with the air into a more medical-phenolic note. A little sweet malt and burnt caramel along with light fruits emerge. At the same time, a sweet sherry note appears again and again. In the background there is a hint of leather with some vanilla. Again and again a slight alcoholic sharpness stings in the nose - I blame that on the youth of this still very young malts.
    • Taste
      82 82
the 48 vol% push properly and bring a creamy-oily mouthfeel. The peat (smoke) also gets through well. There is also a certain sweetness and sherry aroma in the taste, although I cannot really differentiate it. There is a "basic spiciness" to everything. For a short moment he went into a bitter bitterness (espresso), but quickly caught up again.
    • Finish
      81 81
it remains spicy (nutmeg) and creamy medium to long. The long lasting peat (smoke) turns into something ashy with a leather note.

    Appearance: golden yellow
Nose: very dominant smoke, you can smell the NewMake, a little metallic, strongly malty, slightly sweet, pear
Mouthfeel: A bit bitter, with slight astringency. Still mild
Taste: pepper, very dominant smoke, somewhat bitter and unfortunately unpleasant phenolic, hint of dark chocolate
Finish: Long, but continued to be bitter and smoky.

Rather disappointing in terms of price and marketing!
