Very complex, fresh and spicy aromas in the smell with a pleasant sweet and sour fruit note and the subtle, maritime basic character of a spring bench. If you don't like this "dirty" influence, you may not have fun here.
You can keep it in your mouth forever. Nothing burns and the constantly changing aromas, which are difficult for me to break down, do not cause boredom here either.
The finish is long but cannot keep up with the previous impressions. It gets too bland for me too quickly and above all it remains dry wood.
    Overall, a great spring bench.
    • Nose
      91 91
fermented light fruits, green apples, some iodine, salt, some malt, white pepper, clove, cocoa powder, scorched wood, caramel, weak furniture polish, mint, a little grated lemon peel. Every now and then briefly sweetened plums, honey and raisins flash. Always new impressions, it will not be boring in the nose.
    • Taste
      89 89
sweet, spicy, sweetened plums, pepper, malt, tart honey, tannins, becoming creamy, sugar candy, raisins, cough syrup, salty, peppermint, slightly sparkling, a little sulfur, burned matches, strong dark chocolate
    • Finish
      85 85
long finish, lots of wood, some ash, too little fruit and sweetness, stale, unsweetened peppermint tea. Overall, it is too stale for me here

Raisins, Armagnac plums and pleasant notes of sherry. Smells promising
    • Taste

Unpleasantly acidic in the beginning, the fruitiness is overlaid by sour notes. It's as much fun in the mouth as a rotten yogurt.
    • Finish
      75 75
Doesn't take much off the taste, reminds me of the spit-on burp cloths of my children as babies.

With a lot of ice cream and cola it will probably work

First 15er / I expected more...head to head with the 12CS he definitely looses the race. Though he is a bit different more on the darker side ..maybe it's this batch it's so cloudy that one could think that it's under 46 ABV /: everything handmade at Springbank so shit can happen? It's still really good but not outstanding... a bit sulfur on the palate but that's hopefully gone when opened for a while...maybe the rate will rise when come back to it .. but for now freshly opened and a short try 88.

Slight change in the rate after 3 weeks / very decent Springer with the notes you excpect (Sherry(fruit, sweetness,) Dunnagenote, salty, choclate - round from start to finish with all the edges i like) )...sulfur hardly noticeable (today?) - what ever easy 89....after 2 month it's even more improved...damn Springbank just needs time ;) / on sulfur sensitive days (glad that differs with me) it's hard to drink though

This batch suffers from too many sulphury sherry casks.
One can tell that underneath there's some proper whisky, but the sulphur is most prominent and is definitely acting as an oppressor here.
    What a shame!

I’m not sure it’s quite worth twice as much as the 10, but it’s a major step up. It’s very strange as I wasn’t completely blown away, but it is an absolute delight to drink.

    • Taste

Honey, bready, clove, smoky. Gets creamy feeling after a bit, sweetens, spices. Nuttiness comes through on taste after it appears in the nose.

Spiced fruit, smoke, oak, dry. Long.

    Value (£60) : 8/10
    • Nose
Reminds me of milk chocolate upfront. The sherry influence is clearly present with sour morello cherries, juicy plums and cranberries. Also a touch of burnt matchsticks or sulphur (but not something I find overpowering). Some fresh green apples and limes. Salted caramel and orange peel. Herbal thyme and aniseed with cooling menthol. There is some mild peat in the background as well but not overpowering in any sense. A touch of cracked black pepper warmth as well.
    • Taste
A creamy mouthfeel. Juicy fruits and more sour cherries. A little bit of vanilla and burnt caramel. The sherry influence from the nose carry over very well into the palate with juicy plums and fig notes. A touch of that sulphur note. Warming ginger spice then develops into a milk chocolate along with some liquorice. More baking spices here with cinnamon and nutmeg.
    • Finish
Medium long and bittersweet. Oak tannins leave dark cocoa and roasted coffee notes and a herbal mint note. Some overbreed black tea. Here some poached pears make an appearance as well.

this "dirty" character is certainly fun for many malt lovers... it's not the case for me, try to disregard that in the evaluation as far as possible and keep it more objective.
It's not really for beginners because it's too complex; for lovers and advanced users there is a lot to discover and the malt also constantly changes the aromas in the interplay with the air.
Yes, it can do something - swings back and forth between herbs and fruits.
In the taste more herbs and spices than fruit; becomes bitter at the back and goes in the direction of mocha and dark chocolate.
    [86 - 82 = good whisky -> get a second bottle? Maybe...]
It's not bad and the nose is a lot of fun, but it's not *the* revelation either (at least not to me); around 100 euros for the 15? Are they all spinning now? Wow, no thanks, the sample is enough for me.
    • Nose
      89 89
initially herbal note, which also comes across as a bit dirty - as if herbs such as thyme, oregano, marjoram and some rosemary were marinated in diesel... but that goes away over time.
then comes a fruit sweetness of red and yellow, partially fermented fruits (apricots, plums, raisins, juicy apples, but slowly starting to rot).
Something floral emerges in the background and becomes more evident with time and enough air.
Seasoning and spices are spreading alongside; I have cinnamon, nutmeg and lovage / maggie herb.
I also have green moments of wet moss on moldy pine logs; musty wine cellar.
Some barrel char, charred wood; but also have impressions of salty sea breeze far in the background.
Follow-up test: A juicy, dark red cherry is added to the fruit side.
    • Taste
      86 86
quite spicy right from the start, ginger spiciness on the tongue. Strongly herbaceous in the mouth, the fruits hold back a little during the first sip; the dirty character/funk is palpable. There is also a charred wood moment/barrel char in the mouth. It becomes drier and somehow velvety on the tongue.
Second sip: herbs again, fruit comes through a little better, plus cinnamon and, above all, nutmeg.
Creamy texture. Barrel char with roasted flavors comes through even more and leaves something like a light smoke in the mouth.
    • Finish
      82 82
long finish with herbs and spices; Velvety, dark chocolate with roasted aromas.
The chocolate is always bitter with a high cocoa content and drier.
Tobacco and leather appear with a time delay.

I still like the nose pretty much, on the palate it is initially also reasonable, but with the rather uninspired, alcoholic finish it clearly gives away its potential.
    • Nose
      87 87
The alcohol stings briefly, followed by cherry, orange, banana, honey. In addition, overripe apples, burnt caramel and a minimal hint of smoke.
    • Taste
      86 86
Very briefly sweet, then quickly quite spicy. Cherry, wood, chocolate, honey and caramel. The alcohol is still properly incorporated.
    • Finish
      84 84
Medium-long finish with spiciness, pepper, slight bitterness. The alcohol is getting pretty aggressive now

First tasting from a freshly opened bottle:
    • Nose
      88 88
Nuts, fresh fruits, apples, refreshing citrus notes. After a few moments, the fruits will get darker and heavier. Wonderful spicy notes spread, the sherry shows presence. This is followed by some dry chocolate, tangy oranges, slightly doughy notes, dry, spicy wood, some tobacco and rum-raisins.

Very complex, the malt changes from minute to minute.

      The alcohol is well integrated.

After the first sip, the Springbank becomes creamier and more vanilla, with juicy dark red fruits.

After more than 30 minutes in the glass, heavy dark fruit notes such as plums and dark grapes spread.
    • Taste
      88 88
Clearly spicy and slightly dry, tart and dry nuts spread. In addition, fresh citrus notes, spicy wood, darker spices and pleasant light fruit notes. Slightly bitter chocolate. Over time, the fruit notes become heavier and darker, grapes and plums become noticeable. A wonderful mixture of spicy and fruity notes, with very delicate 'Springbank dirt'.
    • Finish
      87 87
Very fresh, almost like a fresh sea breeze, pleasantly but clearly spicy, pleasantly tart and strong wood notes, strong and dry spices. A tart chocolate note remains on the palate for a long time.

    Nice springbank sherry maturation.
    • Nose
      87 87
At first, the nose is fruity and dark with raisins and dates. Then finer aromas come to the fore, the whisky appears mineral and somewhat dirty. This impression alternates with sweet notes and biscuit dough with chocolate powder. It would normally be 88 points, but the alcohol could be better involved.
    • Taste
      88 88
Fruity, spicy, oak, grapes and plums, wood, more spices, again mineral, orange peel, maritime.
    • Finish
      87 87
Long and warming, spicy, light oak bitterness, earthy.
