  2. KB201 did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

This Ledaig from Tobermory Distillery is a really smoky and complex malt that could have come from the Isle of Islay. Ledaig means "safe harbour". The new bottling of Ledaig was bottled at a higher alcohol content by Burn Stewart. 12-year-old Bunnahabhain and 10-year-old Tobermory also experienced this upgrade.

Nice Island smokey dram that became very wanted with the years. So, the price of the independent bottlings rises currently. They definitely hit the right ABV. Its just that the standard distillery bottling needs to pick up better oaks, like with the 10 y old Tobermory from the similar range cause this one tasts a bit immature. But it deepens with the time after opening. Comparable with Highland Park and Longrow.

The taste is full and well balanced between sweet and peaty, between fruity and briny; this is a good alternative for Islay whiskies.
    • Nose
Light peaty, brine, lemon, some sweetness
    • Taste
Salt liquorice, lemon, peat, ocean, pepper, caramel
    • Finish

Appreciating it more over time and thinking the bottle is improving since I’ve opened it. Just a lovely dram whenever I am in the mood forsomething else than a typical speysider.
