A nice, well-rounded dram - but at 46% it might be perfect.
    • Nose
      92 92
At first only sweet smoke, peat, moor, machine oil.
With a little time, the dram opens up slowly and becomes finer, followed by bread crust, jalapeño, black olives, dried tomatoes, dates wrapped in bacon, mussels and sea air, some leather, a touch of fresh fruit (strawberries or honeydew melon?)

The nose takes time, at the beginning I had "only" 90 points, but gradually more and more details came up ... and points.
    • Taste
      90 90
Pleasant and easy to drink, but also less complex than the nose would suggest.
Maybe 46% would have done the dram better, who knows ...

Oily, gentle smoke, dried meat, smoked almonds, pipe tobacco, a little vanilla in the distance
    • Finish
      91 91
Long and warm, campfire, warm sand, chestnuts, dates, slightly salty at the very end

This is probably one of the most underrated whiskys currently for sale. Compared to the Coal Ila 18 the 25 is deeper, more intens and multi layered. Give it some time in the glass to breathe and take your time to enjoy it, for it is one of the few pearls that are not yet overpriced.

He needs a few percent more to be outstanding. That’s a fact. I can clearly feel the age and am surprised that there is still a lot of smoke left here.

Nose: It is soft as butter, nice and relaxed. Nothing stings or bites, pleasantly light smoke rises in the nose with overripe apples and vanilla. You can tell the age immediately, so wonderfully calm. A paint who knows what he wants. A pleasant mineral note with a little sage candy, the herb stand at the fair, plus a Werters Echte in the mouth. Sweet vanilla with milk chocolate and an underlying oak

Taste: Nice and soft and creamy mouthfeel, does it even have alcohol? When swallowing, the smoke comes, slightly ashy, herbs and again caramel. A surprising amount of spice followed by dark chocolate. Plus nuttiness like a Hanuta. In addition, boiled down sweet fruits that go neither in the light nor in the red direction, very balanced and suitable.

Finish: The oak keeps for a long time, but hardly any bitterness, again chocolate. The smoke is not lost, something becomes medicinal. The second sip is followed by a real torrent of smoke, really great!

    (Tasted blind)
NOSE: Smoky bacon, sweet wood ash, some fruit and wine notes, quite complex. (91p)
TASTE: Sweet, lovely balance, just lacking a little in the ABV and chill filtration departments. (90p)
EXIT: Soot, ashes, liqorice, sweet wine. (90p)
    SCORE: 90 (91) points.

    • Nose
      91 91
Fresh fruits with a lead of lemon and exotic fruits. Pineapple, pears, lemon and some grapefruit. With time big orange aroma develops, which surprised me for a Caol Ila.
Thanks to the 43% the nose is much opened, you can get this kind of nose of CS versions with lots of water and time, Love it!
    • Taste
      89 89
Much more sweet on the palate than on the nose. Juicy fruits dominating with lots of pineapple and grapefruit. In the background the typical minerality comes up. Unfortunately the 43% is quite less here...
    • Finish
      88 88
      Medium smoky-lemony aftertaste.
