The 17th batch seemed more successful to me!
Somehow I didn't feel that magic here.
It was on a par with a 10, not much prettier.

13-year-old Glencadam appeared under the motto 'The Re-awakening'. The series commemorates the resurrection of the distillery after it closed in 2000. The distillery reopened in 2003 under new ownership Angus Dundee Distilers, with Batch 1 of 'The Re-awakening' released in 2017.

The uncolored and unchill-filtered whisky has a light golden color that indicates aging in refill bourbon.

    • Nose
In the nosing, there are tart fruit notes with the bitter component of pear skins and a slightly perfumed alcohol note. In addition grain, bread dough, slightly fermented fruit compote. Sweet aromas are contrasted by the tart, bitter tones, overall the whisky tends in the tart direction. These are definitely independent aromas that don't convince me at first sniff - but then somehow captivate me.
    • Taste
There is a sweet-fruity note, but this is covered by tart notes. It's like a beautiful pear that you have to peel to fully enjoy the sweetness beneath the rough, tart skin. On the downside, this peeled pear would be boringly sweet, so the bitterness has its appeal.
    • Finish
The whisky has a tart, dry aftertaste with dried fruits, some wood and little fruit.

Glencadam is not my favorite distillery. The whiskys are often too tart and dry for me and the refill bourbon aromas are too puristic. On the other hand, they are clear whiskys with integrity. At just over €50, this whisky is also in a fair price segment and is a good dram for a summer evening.

Grassy, flowers, honey, banana, lime/lemon juice, canned pineapple and pears.
    • Taste
      84 84
Lemons, white grapes, sour kiwi, ginger and pepper.
    • Finish
      83 83
      medium length. Lemon and spicy.
The aftertaste is a bit bitter, just like the 10-year-old, which becomes even more noticeable when adding some water.

Not bad, but it's a bit too sour for me and especially sour on the aftertaste. Recommended from this one without drinking a few drops of water.

Nose: Fresh bananas, fresh pears and apples, quite a lot of stone minerality (wet granite), vanilla, cream custard. Slight petroleum notes as well. Later fresh pineapple and mango. (89p)
Taste: On the arrival minerality, yellow apples, pears. On the mid palate more minerality (wet granite, hints of petroleum) plus fruit stones and mild white pepper or dried ginger. (88p)
Finish: Peach stone, mild white pepper and a touch of dried ginger. (86-87p)
Overall: A lovely fruity - mineraly bourbon matured whisky which I find very moreish. Total score 88 points.

Edit 27/04/22 - Finished the bottle now and bumped the rating up by one point. The whisky took 3-4 months to settle down and lose its alcohol prickle. After that - a brilliant, intense highland dram.

A distinctive floral profile, I wish there was more whisky with floral notes... overtly spirity and prickly on the note neat, so you may this a bit raw. But it can be tamed, there is quality here! Only takes a little bit of water but that helps. Gets a lot better after a couple of months.

Quite a tricky malt, but it’s worth your time.

A prickly, spirit-driven nose with plenty of rough edges. Even after a month of the bottle being open and an hour in the glass. Beautiful, fruity-floral and malty. White florals, green notes and yellow fruit. Fresh pineapple, pear, sweet pea flowers (think lily of the valley combined with orange), violets, vanilla. I also get some of the soft freshness of rose or geranium. Fresh oak, hint of texan cedarwood (pencil shavings). Light malty biscuits.p and coconut. Some earthy spice gives additional complexity. It also has a... dare I say it?... minerality - not chalky but more like dusty gravel.
    • Taste
      87 87
Surprisingly mouthcoating and full, from the nose you would expect something lighter. Big, round, oily. Starts off quite sweet and blubbery, a bit shapeless, but in the development sour and spicy facets kick in and we’re back to business as usual. Honey, orange, fresh malt, again a fresh white floral impression. Cardamom, ginger and black pepper, the spice is well-balanced.
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium finish. malty, hints of green leaves and grass, poached pear with honey, sweet mint.

    A (yellow) fruit explosion.
    • Nose
      84 84
Lots of banana. Apparently not as much as the 10YO but I haven’t tasted that yet so I can’t compare.
    • Taste
      85 85
More power than expected from the nose. A bit fizzy, more fruit and some hints of vanilla
    • Finish
      84 84
Medium finish, keeps fizzing a bit and I find some hints of citrus next to the yellow fruit.

First thought: Not bad but This Glencadam is not necessary - didn't try too many other GC to be honest and won't do so after this. Maybe it was the lineup with some proper Clynelish and Ben Nevis. You know what i mean?

This was a sample courtesy of Peatbogger.
Sitting outside in the summer sharing this with friends, I wouldn't have a problem with that.
    • Nose
      85 85
The ten was a banana extravaganza, this still has those traits but instead of a bunch it's a couple.
      Still sweet and confectionery.
Slightly more creamy with marshmallow and cream soda.
Not a million miles away from the ten and it's not a surprise.
    • Taste
      86 86
The difference between this and the ten is the chalky texture and the fruit and spice are more balanced.
Quite refreshing and makes a great summer dram.
    • Finish
      84 84
A short to medium finish and it's delicate to the fade.

Tasted right after the standard 10YO.
It's richer and warmer, not that much more complex but in some way a bit more satisfying. I'd say it's worth that little extra on the cost, it's still affordable and good value.
    • Nose
      86 86
      Sweet and yellow fruity.
The base is very similar to the 10YO,
A light vanilla wood character on this as well.
This is a little bolder, not quite as citric and not as sweet.
    • Taste
      88 88
As with the nose, this is not that far from the 10YO.
I feel the differences are for the better though.
It's firmer, less sweet and fruity, and with the same ABV around the same level of peppery spice.
    • Finish
      86 86
Around medium length. Spices seems to fade faster than it does on the 10YO, but this evolves with a rich caramel as it fades.

Very nice whisky, very fresh and fruity, tropical, candylike. A good one for a nice summernight dram (although I tasted this one full in autumn and it still is pleasant :-)).
    • Nose
      86 86
Fresh, fruity, tropical fruits, citrus, some alcohol, full scent. Floral as well. Pineapple, candy-like fruitiness. Fruity sweets.
    • Taste
      86 86
Quite some power, sparkling. Fruitiness all over, orange, some tropical fruits, some honey sweetness, floral notes, thick structure.
    • Finish
      85 85
More smooth now, a little sparkle. Fruity and sweet, peach, pineapple, yellow winegums. Candy-like, pretty long, warming in the belly. Later on a bit woody.

Aroma: very fresh, grassy, citrus (Creamy and pleasant with the scent of bread and butter pudding, almond sugar and spicy jam)
Taste: very sweet, fruity, sweet, medium spicy, with the taste of stone fruit (Creamy panna cotta, lotus biscuits and lemon peel and nutmeg) (Ripe Fruit)

    Best similar to Glenmorangie 10
For the first tasting it can be felt that it is not an old distillate, in a blind tasting I found that it is around 12.
