Drinks like a top notch 20+ year old Macallan. Doesn't need water.
    Amazing stuff!

  2. Sleinn nam Ffoh scored this whisky 92 points Expert Senior

Very intense sherry aromas paired with fresh notes of the distillery character. Perfectly balanced.
    • Nose
      92 92
First light fruit notes, marlons, malt and grain notes, then bananas, cherries, honey, complex and overripe. Tobacco, dark chocolate, figs, dates.
    • Taste
      92 92
Very intense, creamy texture, the alcohol is perfectly integrated, but water brings more aromas ...
Dark fruit notes, cherries, plums, blackberries in abundance, plus tobacco, woody elements, honey sweetness, ripe strawberries.
    • Finish
      91 91
Long, with a fruity sweetness and very intense oak bitterness, which however never becomes unpleasant due to the fruitiness and sweetness.

  3. KayMeertens scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

A cleaner profile than the other Selections that I know. That fresh grain touch is uncommon.
    • Nose
      90 90
The first thing that stands out is a freshness that reminds me of an old single grain. Blood orange. Then getting more treacly with cherry, mocha and date.
    • Taste
      89 89
More emphasis on the dark treacly notes, but still that freshness underneath. Mocha, hazelnut, date, blood orange and grape.
    • Finish
      90 90
Dark chocolate, hazelnut, cherry and coffee.

This is simply the best sherry bomb I know (price segment up to € 200). Phenomenally intense, you just can't stop smelling it. It took me half a movie to enjoy the smell incessantly until I finally allowed myself the first sip. The only real competitors I know are the Selection Port and the Glenlivet 1st Fill Sherry Butt. Despite the barrel strength, the alcohol doesn't bother you in the least, dilution only reduces the intensity :)

    I really liked it.
I'm usually not the biggest fan of young sherry bombs, but I kind of like the Kavalans.
Certainly anything but subtle, but they do it with conviction.
    • Nose
Unsurprisingly, there's plenty of sherry. Kirsch. Straw and raspberry jam. A couple of wild berries. Blood orange. Some grain. A little tobacco with menthol and chocolate. Roasted nuts. A little oak can also be seen.
    • Taste
Almost syrupy at first. Cherry juice. Rum raisins. Cherries thickened with vanilla pudding. Then the fruits become tart and saliva begins to flow. Then a certain sharpness and spicy notes.
    • Finish
The fruit acid remains for a while. Black tea with milk. Cocoa.

Delicious, intense sherry malt. It's already quite charged, which I don't really like. Somehow it fits here with water. Looks harmonious and well balanced.
    • Nose
      89 89
Full sherry on the nose. Overripe bananas, plum jam, dates, figs.
Extremely dark and fruity. In addition, nice, sweet forest honey. In addition, dark chocolate and tobacco flavors push forward from the background, which then become more intense and partially detach the fruit. Great interplay. After a while, some oak will come through.
    • Taste
      88 88
Creamy, oily, it covers the oral cavity. Then oak seasoning and peppery heat are added. Almost chili hot. Alcohol is well integrated, but can still tolerate some water. Dark fruits like cherries, plums are included. I also mean to make out some oranges. Now I also find a few spices, cinnamon and coriander, which for me very nicely convey the sweetness, come through.
      Round, harmonious thing.
    • Finish
      87 87
Long finish, becomes a bit dry. Chocolate and coffee add some bitterness. The malt then slowly fades away sweetly and with a little tobacco.
