In a BTAC line-up of this Weller, the George T Stagg and the 17 year old Rare Eagle this one came second after the GTS. It's a beautiful, sweet (but far from sickeningly) wheated bourbon.

Really very good but below my expectations, especially at this price point.
    • Nose
On the nose it is intense on spices and old varnished wood. On rubbing alcohol flavored with caramelized chocolate.
    • Taste
In the mouth, fiouf is strong but much more drinkable in the feeling than Stagg or Thomas Handy (perhaps because a wheat is sweeter than a bourbon or a rye?). It's creamy, caramelized. Even if the wood is present it does not crush everything.
    • Finish
Very long finish on leather, vanilla and caramel.

prunes, spices, fairly pronounced wood with impregnated wooden slats, a little mold, coffee mocha, caramelized vanilla at the end
creamy, caramel milk juice, sweet spices, then peppery in a second step, the oak seems to imbue with caramel, a toasted return, a little dry hazelnuts, macerated fruit and the fine film of mold on the top of a barrel of fruit (plums, plums)
return of wood, a little dusty leather, burnt almond shell, pine sap, maple syrup, caramel, baked vanilla and a feeling of fat in the mouth, keeping the scents more present.
simple; on the same scents, a long and intense finish.

    Nose: dark fruits, plum, oak
Palate: cough syrup, oak, thick oily mouthfeel
Finish: furniture polish, camp coffee, oak

Tasted as part of the Milroys BTAC tasting

  5. Dixie Mafia scored this whisky 94 points Expert Junior

    Heaven in a bottle.
