Not very sure about the nose, pretty floral, with some honey, slight earthy and peaty. Rather sharp with citrusy and some sweetness. Definitely not my favourite Springbank.
    • Taste
      87 87
A rather biscuit-y and bread-y arrival, with honey, some bitterness, pretty fruity as well.
    • Finish
      83 83
Long and warming, fruity and nutty, and some oak bitterness.

N- Expect the raisins with drift of curious fresh wood, fresh lemonade with alluring dirty mud, sphere of meaty peat with doses of menthol derived from the spirity strength that are obviously layered on each nosing, some may thought it as pungent but I do find it characteristically added admiring power to the liquid. Wait, more to come, Sauvignon Blanc, lychee, potpourri and even some cocoa at the tail. Highly evolving and active. Amazing offering.

P- Gentle and velvet on palate despite the hefty strength. Getting thicker overtimes as it sits on palate, elegant dryness built up overtime, solid body, mildly sweet with pinch of sea water.

F- Long, silky, some fine smokes, rounded, mellow, firm tannin, peppery and gum tickling, chewy and with basket-full of juicy fruits on the returns.

It was interesting to taste a whisky, which was fully matured in a cognac cask. Unfortunately the result is not very convincing in this case. Average but still drinkable and pleasant.
    • Nose
Warming and rather fruity. Notes of apricot cake, cereals and toffee. Although the whisky was fully matured in a cognac cask the smell of cognac is not obvious for me. It is well integrated into the other notes. Nice and pleasant.
    • Taste
Warming with earthy and peaty notes coming up. Still fruity (dried apricots and winey notes), but not as much as the nose would suggest. Ginger, pepper and orange zest, which makes it slightly bitter. A little unbalanced, spirity and inharmonic.
    • Finish
Medium long, sweet and inharmonic, lacking character.

This whisky really does benefit from the addition of a touch of water.
