Whisky Reviews for Tomatin 1976 DT

- Still the best tomato I had in my glass.
Immediately a fruity nose rises from the glass. Nice fruit compote. Apricots, vanilla, grapes, damp hay, orange peel, some old leather. In the background, some alcohol rises, but only discreetly and not disturbing. Honey mixes with the fruit compote, but rather a sweetish not too spicy honey. Amazing that after 33 years in the barrel still such a freshness comes about.
The fruit compote from the nose arrives immediately in the mouth. Passion fruit, light spiciness on tap, vanilla, apricots, light hints of kumquats and a touch of clove. Also a honey note is included, most likely maple honey. Again and again the passion fruit comes to the fore and mixes with light cocoa notes.
Very long, the fruitiness gradually gives way to the spice, which spreads pleasantly in the mouth with a sweetish note and is still present after 2 minutes. After that it fades gradually.
- Tasting Notes:
- [October, 2010] Together with friends I emptied bottle no. 165 that I bought for 89 Euro in July, 2010.[February, 2012] Together with friends I emptied bottle no. 167 that I bought for 89 Euro in February, 2011.In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 90 and 87,5. My notes state a beautiful fruity profile but some heavy wooden notes too. It should have been bottled some years earlier...
