Actually quite chic, I like the nose pretty much despite the slightly too weak intensity. Unfortunately, it then degrades strongly in terms of taste. The Octave was meant well, but in my opinion the whole creation is not yet ready to be worth more than a sample. You can do it, but nobody really needs it.
    • Nose
      84 84
Nice fresh red fruit notes, berries, red grape juice, delicate chocolate, fresh sweet citrus fruits, a little dry vanilla, raspberry lemonade, fizzy powder.

All in all very tasty, but could be a bit more intense.
    • Taste
      82 82
Pleasant red fruit notes, a bit spicy and above all dry wood, very light tart chocolate, a bit musty (here more in the negative sense), after a while light dry herbal notes. Maybe with some dried fruit.

Unfortunately a bit too one-dimensional, unspectacular and unbalanced.
    • Finish
      80 80
Relatively tart, somewhat flat and almost a bit bubbly, delicately dry, musty herbs. Fades extremely quickly.

Lacks balance between spirit and cask, which is a shame.
    • Nose
Lots of vanilla pods, but also subtle notes of raisin, balsamic, bitter orange peel and a good amount of triple sec. Some soft spices in the background—think cinnamon.
    • Taste
This is were it feels more engineered. The syrupy, sweet, drying influence of the sherry octave is undeniable. There's some soft notes of toasted oak and black pepper corns as well.
    • Finish
Notes of orange peel and dark caramel. Medium in length.

The octave casks are a great way to age the whisky faster..(I would guess this around 15-16 yrs on a blind tasting)

N: Nutty, oak, sherry, spices, chocolate, red fruits, dried black fruits

P: all of the above what we got on the nose, pleasant and round

F: Medium length, sweet, fruity, oaky

Nothing you would need actively to seek out. Feels artificially constructed. There is no balance between the spirit and the casks used. Obviously inmature. What is more, I hate the 0,5l bottles concept. My advice to the bottling company (AtB) would be: Follow the traditions and use 0,7l bottles for scotch. If you really want to stick to 0,5l bottles, please do us/scotch collectors a favor and switch to bottling vodka. Then, 0,5l would be quite OK.

    S 5
Quite a light nose despite its complexity. Palate and finish are dominated by dryness and spice, masking the sherry notes. Given the price, it’s a decent dram but nothing impressive. There’s better-balanced sherry casked single malt available on the market.

    N 23
    Candied fruit
    Some freshly cut grass
    Subtle spice behind
Getting more sherry notes and citrusy when left to breathe

    P 23
    Sweet and chewy
    Malty
    Some saltiness, some raisin
    Peppery spice surfaced and lingering

    F 22
    Mid, dry finish
    Malty
    Raisin
    Young alcohol burn

Medium color (Darkness?), Sweetness, vanilla. Taste: intense sweetness (almost reminiscent of PX), quite pleasant, fruity, mouthcoating, long finish, not complex, easy drinking. Good quality considering the price.

Orange jam, vanilla, raisins, ripe light fruits, some plum.
    • Taste
      83 83
Creamy start, then peppery, spicy and the oak is very noticeable. Dry sherry, vanilla, caramel. Bitter orange jam.
    • Finish
      83 83
Caramel, oak and espresso roasted aromas.
