This is the flagship of the Israeli distillery, as the name suggests. It matured on a combination of casks: former bourbon casks and so-called red wine STR casks. STR is short for ‘shaved, toasted & re-charred’. That shows the influence of Dr Jim Swan who later also introduced this combo at other distilleries like Nc’nean. Let’s put this Classic to the test.
The nose is fairly sharp, I must say. Lots of vanilla, lime and honey. Hint of red berries and gooseberries. Soft spiciness. Grasses and flowers. Not very complex, but pleasant enough. Let’s keep the age in mind.
Light body. Again pretty sharp at first sip. Quite alcoholic. Vanilla, honey, cherries, berries and floral notes. No surprise there. Some nutmeg and ginger.
I get oak, red fruit and apples in the rather short finish.
Nice entry level whisky, but needs more time for the alcohol to integrate properly, I think. But 50 EUR is certainly a fair price. Thanks to Buds & Barrels for the sample.
