Decent bottling that will warm up your bones on a cold winter day.

Peat smoke, brine, seawater, campfire embers, hint of vanilla, acetone, applejuice sweetness.

Quite thick, oily mouthfeel, fairly large alcohol punch, peppery warmth, cane sugar sweetness, quite sweet. Peat smoke and medicinal notes all over. Not bad, but aggressive. Second chew brings oaky spices, some barley, slight fruit, but it's getting drier as well. Medicinal notes are especially strong. Third chew brings some kipper/smoked herring in oil with with black pepper (yummy!), and it's getting drier, still. Campfire embers now also coming on strong, it's becoming challenging on the palate, but it's still a nice expression. Not for the faint of heart, though.
    • Finish
      86 86
Peat smoke, strong peppery alcohol warmth, oaky spices, medicinal notes, and large dose of oatmeal, as well as smoked greasy fish. Leaves you with a nice taste for quite a while.

The beast is too tame for me for the name. But it is delicious. A dram for taking it outside, by the lake or the sea, when it slowly gets cooler in the evening. Full review (german): https://keinehalbendrinks.de/2020/07/20/junge-caol-ila/

Notes von der SMWS Website: https://www.smws.com/beast

    Ausgabepreis Januar 2020: 65,00 GBP

"Struck by a gigantic wave of seaweed and sea salt we careered into burnt wood and bonfires like being on a Viking burial ship in a Hebridean hurricane. Sweetness bowled forth on the palate as honey and burnt toffee-coated lobster shells and charred apples. Water from another wave washed us onto aromas of dried kelp, mussels and oysters but now with an oily grime that embraced engine grease and overalls. Fresh notes of eucalyptus drifted in to join crispy parsnips and carrots before the wonderful textures of smoked mackerel created a harmony that tamed the beast on a lengthy and smoky finish."
