The weight and mouthfeel of the distillate is still somewhat recognisable, the rest of what Talisker 10 used to be has completely vanished.
Having had this in a blind tasting lineup along with 3 other single malts, I had this mistaken for a lightly peated, juvenile, mediocre Bunna, do I need to say more??!
    • Nose
The nose is dominated by sweet yoghurt with some dark toffee, alongside some chocolaty notes, and an old, dry, faint sawdust note, with some farmyardy peat, feels somehow uncomplementary, and premature.
    • Taste
The nose very much translates onto the palate, the weight of the distillate carries the aromas of the nose well, although there's not much to carry in the first place, toffeeish sweet, some cocoa, some farmyardy yoghurty peat, younghish.
    • Finish
The finish is a little toffeeish, chocolaty, farmyardy, and really short.

I also don't know what rode me when I first rated it.
Very nasty sprittig and sometimes not at all Talisker and not cool either. I'm really happy that the bottle is finally empty.

Too gentle with water, especially when starting. I think it lives from the boom with which it enters the mouth. Smoky, powerful. A door-to-door, but personable, gruff. The big brothers are more jealous, bitter or bipolar ... I really prefer the second youngest of the siblings. Even if he styled himself with dye. Must be the boy ...

The nose is immediately smoky, peaty, greasy, salty. The kitchen door stands up in an old stone hut by the sea. A look inside shows that the fire went out a few hours ago and meat is hanging in a corner. The fennel note indicates a fennel salami from the wild boar. Delicious!

And then there's a kick in the ass and you end up in the kitchen in the dust. Oomph! The smells change into taste, patter on you and you are once perplexed who kicked you there. The second youngest of the Talisker brothers! The encounter burns salty in the mouth.

Down with it, you think you are rid of the guy and suddenly it burns like hot pepper sauce, but not as fruity. More after BBQ. A smoky, ashy impression remains.

A pleasant dram (though the Mrs says it's disgusting).

      Gentle peatiness.
    • Finish
      Quite short.
