Whisky Reviews for Ballechin 2008
2 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 87.55 points
- Nice juicy sherry, dark, sweet and plum. Reminiscent of the undoped Edradour from the sherry barrel. The peat is nice and greasy and herbaceous, typical Ballechin, once there was a somewhat strict "big cat" note, but overall a harmonious and tasty thing.
- The empty glass smells totally cool.
The first thing that suits me is a coked leather smoky note. Braised gum and lovage. The colleague smells very earthy. Moist soil, moss and dry softwood. Juniper berries and it has something like dark beer sauce. Let it stand…
With a little time in the glass, the colleague looks fat. In addition sweet pepper spice and a pinch of pepper. There is some dried fruit in the background. Alcohol is extremely low for the percentages. Only cools the nose comfortably. Juicy, overripe orange and some cinnamon follow.
Dry, smoky start. Neat booms and nice hot pepper. For me, the smoke also tends to go into the charred direction. Dried grain, beef jerky, dried berries, plums and slightly bitter orange jam. With the second sip, the dried herbs come through more clearly. Again the slightly dusty wood taste. In addition malt and some yeast dough. It works without water.
Medium length. Very dry and slightly nutty bitter. In addition a fine smoke note.
