The finest and most palatable with 10 gtt water to 30ml Leave a lot of time in the glass.
A well balanced 18yo with an excellent price-performance ratio. Easy to drink and not so complex that you couldn't even enjoy it in the evening. A positive surprise from a still unknown to me.
    • Nose
      90 90
old oak barrels with wine cellar, earthy and profound, lots of fruits (ripe apples and pears), walnuts, sherry, dried fruits, raisins, caramel
    • Taste
      89 89
Sweet, caramel, dark fruits, dark chocolate, malt, almonds, berries, sherry, fig, raisin, oak, spices
Creamy-sweet mouthfeel, later becoming tart, bitter-sweet and later noticeable oak of the 18 years, combined with pleasant spiciness
    • Finish
      88 88
ang and warming, getting drier, full-bodied with what nose and palate promised

Still wondering what the difference is between a 'normal matured' 18y old whisky and a 'Slow Matured' 18y old.

On demand, the standard, in fact, did not hear much depth.

I wanted to like this 18-year-old. Sympathetically priced, 43%, nice nose - what's not to like? Well, it's all a bit flat and simple, 18 or not. It has not become more than an entry-level model, the long maturation could have produced a little more depth. The alcohol is still in the foreground, there is some cardboard in the smell and taste, the whisky is sharp and unpolished - and not in the surprising way. No, it doesn't make me happy. The rather emphatic caramel flavor also makes you think; additive here or there? No, Knockando is back on the left.

Come on, in the rematch tonight. Bought a bottle after a previous meeting. I was not very impressed. Theoretically, however, I could be wrong, so a re-evaluation is in order. Slightly sweet smell, wet cardboard, vanilla. Also some sweet fruit. Melon? Granny too, that smell.
The taste is peppery, flat and sweet. Again grainy, as in Brinta. Apple. A touch of cream dessert with vanilla - panacotta, that's what it's called. A bit cowardly, everyone. From an 18-year-old, however affordable, I think you can expect more. I'm not spitting him out, he's quite nice. But certainly not anymore. 82 points.

My second bottle, L0317CM004 - 00008937 - opened a good 3 weeks ago. Tasted neat throughout. Well balanced, inexpensive PLV, a pleasant, not overly complex 18yo. The second bottle was perhaps a bit boring after the positive surprise of the first bottle was no longer possible.
    Hence devaluation

Decent whisky, you can tell it's older. But you have to like the very bitter notes. Nevertheless, a delightful 18er for relatively small money, even if not a top-quality whisky.
    • Nose
Classically fruity, spicy nose, very Speyside but very little sherry. Sweet malty, maybe a little nutty.
    • Taste
In the mouth it is then sweet and again surprisingly a lot of tart notes. But there is an underlying sweetness.
    • Finish
The finish is also very tart here, almost bitter, walnut shell, but also has nice, sweet honey accents.

Definitely needs water and time, then it opens up and becomes significantly sweeter and the strange aftertaste in the finish disappears.
I like the 12 year old better.
    • Taste
      malty-sweet
    • Finish
      dry with oak seasoning

Complex but well balanced. This whisky is not in your average starterpack but it takes you to that next level in whisky tasting. The heavy dark-sweet fruity notes, the dry nuttiness and the warm sweetness takes you on a smooth journey that will never bore you.
    • Nose
      82 82
Honey, raisins, blueberries, walnuts, toffee, caramel
