Thank you very much Jens that I had the opportunity to taste one of my first Port Ellens and such a good one! To test one of the most famous Islay distilleries was an amazing experience

    Port Ellen 27 yo 1982
    (57,3%, Whisky-Fässle 2010)

Nose: this one doesn’t need much time to convince you. It starts on wet gravel and dry seaweed. Fresh hints of lime. Excellent medicinal notes as well (antiseptic) in a refined way. Menthol. Tarry ropes. Garage aroma. Powerful yet smooth as silk. A winner. Mouth: very intense, high on lemon and pepper, high on tar again, high on smoke. Again quite antiseptic. All of this well dosed. Then getting a bit sharper and earthier. Finish: mouth-watering lemon and soot.

A powerful Port Ellen that’s not too austere nor too rounded. Impressive combination of strong flavours and an excellent balance. One of the best Port Ellens I’ve had recently. Around € 190, now sold out (does it surprise you?).

    Score: 93/100

Nose: vanilla cream with orange liqueur, dull, salty herbs and peaty smoke. Honey, coal and damp soil. Spicy with leather aromas and wet hay.
Taste: Round and balanced with a lot of cheeks! Lots of salt, white pepper, ginger ale provided with the fruit of limes and lemons. Powerful vanilla notes on a fruity base jolt. Now only smoke and peat class balanced.
Finish: Long - sweet, green notes with honey and vanilla in peaty earthy smoke. All-round delicious and balanced until decay.
Comment: The nose has many parallels to the 81er 15y Glenscoma!
    94 points (nose: 94 / taste: 94 / finish: 93)
