Whisky Reviews for Springbank 1972

- Excellent old style sherried springbank, very fruity and lively
- Great old style dark sherried Springbank - belongs to my favorites. I could sip this endlessly.
First toffee galore, then the fruits come out, oranges, plums, ripe bananas, tropical fruits, sweet oak wood, faint smoke
Warm, smooth, liquorice, fruity, woody, perfect level of sweetness, brown sugar, toffee and dark chocolate
Warm and long, no bitterness at all, the aromas arrive even deeper
- These old Springbanks are often beautiful, and this one is no exception. A malt sometimes on the edge of the razor, as the balance between the wood and the fruity / sherry is tense, but which stays afloat with panache! Should be worth 93/100 "in my books", but earn a point for this absolutely fabulous nose, without any restraint.
I love the nose of these old Springbanks. It is a basket of dried fruit, papayas, apricots, pineapple, candied orange zest, a sweet exoticism but not disgusting. A veil of coal smoke covers the fruit, accompanied by sherry, wax, precious wood, old weathered furniture. Happiness !
Terrible ... We find all that the nose foreshadowed, a superb balance between fruity acidity, sugar, a good woody bitterness that avoids sinking into malt for lovers of sweets, and always this very subtle touch of smoke. The 46% are fully exploited, we do not feel any weakness.
Long, but not enough ... We would like it to last forever. It is well marked by the bitterness of tannins, but a last fruity touch of sugar and acidity allows it not to fall into the excess of wood.
