This one I tried in a tasting of old OB classics from the 70's and 80's of Springbank. A decent dram even with it's minor flaws, though no classic in my book. Probably suffered a bit from the company of the mindblowing 70's 12, 15 and 21 in the same tasting. The bottle is the same as in the picture, the colour of the liquid was very pale white wine. Some of the other reviews make me wonder whether we are talkig about the same spirit: I find it highly unlikely that the colour could be considerably darker in an individual bottle.
Quite pungent, chalky dry. Doesn't open up at the beginning, celery and chicory. A salmiak maltiness lingers somewhere in the background. Young and raw. With a drop of water (small one considering the strength) opens up and turns rounder, with a mild sweet smoke and savoury syrup (umami?). Good. Tar-lozenges.
Salty and a bit flat, honey, mild vanilla. Shellfish, alga, liquerice/salmiak. More in the direction of salmiak.
Salmiak, a bit stingy, thin.
