- Tasted this one in the same lineup as MacErik. Very weak nose; basically no nose at all. Taste is "best" with hardly no finish. There are better single grains out there.
- Also sampled via the BBR tasting.
I admit I'm increasingly impressed with the single grain category, and this was no exception. It has a lovely nose, with pine spices, lime/mohito notes, and a pleasant funky mustiness. The palate is a notch lower, but still very nice, with sweet vanilla and toffee.
- Tasted at the Berry Bros and Rudd Whiskybase online virtual tasting, led by the excellent spirits master and storyteller Doug McIvor who bottled them.
I think single grains are a fundamentally flawed style, although obviously there are many who would dispute this statement and probably rightly so. I just can't get over the sweetness of the corn and/or wheat and they always remind me of bourbon, which I don't really enjoy.
The nose is pretty good, some unripe green plums and gooseberries, with a lot of vanilla
Here the sweetness of the grain overwhelms me....
... and it lasts a long time with a lot of vanilla. Technically perhaps I should give this more points for the sustained finish but it isn't a style I enjoy.
- Just a nice sweet grain, but nothing special about it, not very complex. Expected a little more actually for this aged whisky.
Sweet, a lot of vanilla, fresh. A bit grassy, citrus too. Some glue now, not a very tough nose, pretty soft.
Very smooth entrance, soft. Vanilla, sweet. Then a little tingling, some glue now as well.
Still very smooth, sweet, vanilla. Not too long. Some wood, ice cream sticks. A little of cigar tobacco now.
