    nose:
malt sweetness, caramelized, toasted, vanilla, leather too, dried grapes, sweet spices on cinnamon
    mouth:
fruity sweetness as on a very good blended where the fruit basket mixes the scents, on the fruit compote (central apple) with the sugar that turns to caramel, heat in the mouth suddenly, a little varnish, leather, the cooked vanilla and the fruits come back cooked and sweet, the almond paste coming to soften even more.
    final:
spicy sweet, cinnamon, marzipan, Christmas cake, melting almonds, fruit in syrup, sweet and quite long in fact on a monolithic finish that delights.

    Teeling 18 YO Renaissance No1
    Madeira casks finish
    Bottled 11.2019
    Number of bottles9000
    Alc. 46% vol.
The aroma is sweetish. The first wave is vanilla, some citrus fruits, candies, canned peaches, and spicy spices. They stood ... breathed ... black currants, prunes appeared.
The taste is bright, sweet-peppery. Canned peaches, vanilla, berry jam, lemonade notes, light grassiness, plentiful pepper, barrel.
Finish - long, sweet - peppery, vanilla, pepper, herb, barrel.
Solid Irish whisky, with a good balance, not cheap for derivatives. If we compare with the previously tested samples of Teeling 24 yo and Midelton Barry Crockett Legacy, then this copy is brighter, more concentrated, more "daring". Someone will like it, some will not.

First impression: it does not come up to the level of the older ones
Teasels with the distinctive, tropical fruit notes
    approach.

The Madeira cask finish is only too, if at all
guess. As a lover of good Madeira, I had
    expected a little more.

Still a very good whisky and I'm curious
whether it will develop positively in the opened bottle.

The presentation and packaging of the bottle is, however
spectacular. Great bottle with heavy cork and
wide metal handle. The whole thing in a very nice way
and very sturdy box with magnetic closure and
the bottle embedded in high quality foam.
A big movie theater. The collector will be delighted there
    to have.

Of course, many bottlings that appear under the Teeling label today cannot yet come from the new Teeling Distillery in Dublin or from John Teeling's Great Northern Distillery. Both distilleries were founded in 2015. So we probably have casks from the Cooley Distillery for this 18-year-old from 2019 as well. The whisky was matured in American Bourbon and then finished in Madeira casks. They could have left a light, delicate red cast. The base says it's unfiltered and uncolored - I couldn't find info on the color, according to the website it's un-chillfiltered.

    • Nose
The whisky has to breathe a little so that alcoholic notes disappear. Then comes vanilla, which is accompanied by subtle fruit aromas. It's tart mirabelle plums and some wine gums, a few red currants.
    • Taste
The start is also strong at 46%, but the alcohol does not carry enough aromas with it. There is an incipient sweetness that is replaced by drier wood aromas. Fruit aromas are rather restrained and diffuse in taste. The whisky is also not immediately identifiable as Irish.
    • Finish
Some wood remains in the aftertaste, but there is still enough sweetness to not let the whisky become too dry. Overall, the aromas are rather weak.

This is a nice whisky but stands out more in its presentation and price than in its aromas and taste. Despite his 18 years, he is restless and lacks harmony. The finish didn't leave too much of an impression.

Children, the whisky is good, no question about it. However, the prices above €500 that are now being asked for in retail can neither be justified in terms of taste nor with any cult or rarity status of a 2019 bottling.

Otherwise: A beautiful Irishman with complex spice and sherry aromas and a long finish.

Very full and fruity, tasteful. The 46% Abv suits this whiskey very well, perfectly balanced. Very pleasant.
    • Nose
Very full, intense and fruity. Spicy, orange, candy-like. Red fruits, berries. Plants as well, 'green'. And a hint of banana.
    • Taste
Smooth, but full bodied. Then some pickering mouthfeel. Very fruity, red fruits, berries, oranges. Honey.
    • Finish
Pretty powerful, fruity, red fruits, raspberry, honey. Candy-like again, Haribo. Pretty long, some licorice.

Overripe bananas, dried fruits, raisins, acetone/shoe polish, leather, cherry pie, buttery cinnamon, nutmeg.
    • Taste

Oily, full, good mouthfeel. Nice alcohol level. Begins with a large dose of muscovado sugar, which balances nicely with just hints of oak. Then come cloves, marzipan, ripe bananas, cherry pie, nutmeg, herbs, and just a slight hint of prunes.
    • Finish
      87 87
Long, warm, spicy, with hints of tobacco and oak. Sweetness is nicely subdued.

Delicious, round tea with a nice, lusciously sweet nose. Very easy to drink. Great aroma combination that the palate can no longer cope with. Too bad about the price. If you have tried it, you don't have to buy it.
    • Nose
      88 88
Soft, pleasant, very sweet nose. In addition spicy and slightly nutty. You can already feel the Madeira barrel. Slowly a fruity sweetness pushes forward after apples, grapes, and a little overripe banana. In the background a little vanilla, dark chocolate and spices of cinnamon and cloves. I mean to make out a kind of creme brulee. There is also a grassy note and some citrus / grapefruit with what I know from the standard single malt teas.
      Great thing !!!
    • Taste
      86 86
Creamy, soft, slightly oily appearance. Subtly spicy and spicy with cinnamon. Intense sweet again. Apple with pears and some red berries are added. Alcohol is well integrated and releases great wood aromas.
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium-long finish, becoming a little drier, sweet fades, spiciness and light fruit stays a little longer.

    Irish Glühwein

This new Teeling is the first in the so-called Renaissance Series and matured for no less than 18 years, mostly on bourbon casks, before it got a finish for 18 months on Madeira casks. No less that 9.000 bottles at drinking strength were released.

The nose is simply outstanding. Silky soft on all kinds of overripe fruit with apples, figs and raisins. Strawberry and kumquat in the background, the whole sprinkled with a little cinnamon. Some farmer’s butter and toffee in the back. A mild floral note completes the picture.

It is equally soft on the palate, although a warm note of cloves immediately dots the I’s. Toffee apples, strawberry sweets, dried apricots and rosewater. Some late cinnamon. Turns quite glühwein-y all of a sudden, but it’s no punishment. Baked banana appears, as does a lot of cherry juice. Good, winters, inviting. I’m a fan!

Some maraschino cherries appear in the long, somewhat drying finish.

Irish glühwein on steroids, I love it! A top dram from Teeling, that will set you back some 130 EUR. Thanks for the sample, Benny!
