This one more than matched my high expectations. It has a mature fruitiness that combines well with the typical Ben Nevis characteristics.
    • Nose
      92 92
Opens very fruity with mango, passion fruit, peach and apple. Turns a bit dirty with nail polish and vegetal/farm-like notes and is subsequently more floral. Also some salted butter and subtle smoke. An amazing nose to explore!
    • Taste
      90 90
Immediately tropical fruits like guava and pineapple, and some bitter oranges too. It's quite oily, and the typical Ben Nevis metallic notes peek around the corner accompanied by leather, mineral water and a light smoke.
    • Finish
      87 87
The finish is not as intense but still aromatic: orange bitter, lime, more restrained tropical fruits, vanilla, quit mineral again with a touch of leather.

    nose:
tangy fruity freshness, butter, cereal, herbs, Madagascar vanilla, then the bouquet of orchard fruits with tangy apple, ripe peach
    mouth:
crushed almond with its small fruits, the bitterness comes out suddenly, a little disappointed, then vanilla again with woody notes, the fruits on the stubborn sour candies, a little juicy pineapple, the flavorful side, pastry chef comes out pleasantly with the sensation of creamy English fudge and its salted caramel grains
    final:
creamy, lemony at this moment that hides a little bitterness, a little oil, warm finish that lasts.

I normally pay more attention to what's in the bottle rather than what's on the label, but Elixir Distillers have delivered a work of art with this edition of the Whisky Trail. Moving on to the tasting notes...
    • Nose

The Nevises I've tried so far are usually characterised a very fruit-forward profile. This whisky seemed a little shy at first. There's leather and salted butter, a slight barnyard smell, vanilla, a few drops of lemon and peach. Ripe peaches, marmalade and jelly bears are revealed as the whisky spends time in the glass. This bottle really benefited from oxidation, as the fruits are becoming more prominent.
    • Taste
      88 88
A soft landing due to the buttery and oily character of the dram. At a well-integrated 51.8% ABV, this is a dram that's very rich yet easily enjoyable without water. Salted butter that slowly melts away to reveal more citrus fruits.
    • Finish
      88 88
Juicy citrus followed by the a bitter tinge of lemon rind. Interesting development from creamy at the start to more astringent at the finish.

A very fresh whisky from the nose. Fresh apple, vegetable note balanced by a subtle delicacy (almond, lemon butter) and a very dynamic palate. A contained complexity but a very pleasant liveliness and all in balance. 88.
