This is an intens nose. There is a lot of sweetness going on here. Sweetness allover the place. Sweet grapes and tropical fruits like melon and coconut. Oak spices, honey and a spirity undertone which is actually very pleasant. It adds nice floral notes and sweet candy to the whole. It seems the Glenallachie new make has a rather bold, thick and powerful profile which works great on this Moscatel finish.
The taste is incredibly well balanced, gentle creamy and warming without becoming sharp despite of the high abv on this one. It is a true mouth filling experience. The body is impressive after just 8 years in casks. Again loads of sweet fruits. White grapes, mango and melon. After a while some more rough pepper like spices come through. It adds a dimension to it since the main part is about sweet. So it’s a positive that this offers more than just that.
Long. In the finish the young age shows itself best. It gives a very mouth filling smokey feeling. More dry notes join in here. Where the nose and taste are more about sweet and tropical fruits, the finish seems to focus more on the floral part of this whisky. An interesting play between new make spirit influences and the wine cask go on for quite a while.
