A whisky from the archive that was already bottled by Signatory in 2019 for the Brühl whisky house. He is 13 years old and appeared in the Un-Chillfiltered Collection - albeit with Cask Strength. It was matured in 1st fill ex-Sherry Butt - whether it was fully matured or post-matured is not on the label. In any case, the color is dark gold to copper - but it is not unnaturally dark like many of the more recent bottlings.

    • Nose
The sherry aromas in the nose are unmistakable with spice and ripe, sweet fruit, soft raisins and a few figs. Chocolate and caramel appear, but there is also a fresh note of alcohol, which at almost 60% vol. is not surprising.

This note becomes milder with water, but there are sweet wine gums, dried fruits are there, raisins and figs are joined by apricots with slightly sour aspects.
    • Taste
The taste needs water, otherwise the alcohol is too present. With water come sweet fruit aromas, ripe, yellow peaches, concentrated grapes, plus chocolate with nuts, Neapolitan slices, Hanuta. And the Islay aspect? It's a sunny, windless summer day on the island, you smell the herbs, flowers and grain rather than the beach and the wild sea.
    • Finish
Sweetness, some wood and then the whisky turns into drier notes, the creamy nut chocolate becomes tart and the aftertaste is not squeaky sherry-sweet, but grainy Islay-tart. This is delicious and exciting.

It feels like such whiskys have disappeared from the market today. And that's a shame. This whisky is a sherry bomb - but an old one, just like sherry bombs were a few years ago. Today they are young, cola-dark broths, which Signatory also has in its range in an inflationary way. This is a delicious whisky that Marco Bonn chose wonderfully. No idea what it cost in 2019. Back then, whisky drinking was fun - now I'm not so sure, because it's hard to find such whiskys affordable. I'll enjoy the last sip of this sample, Slàinte.

Fine, not too complex but varied and harmonious malt. You could drink away like this if it weren't for the high alcohol content. You can do this with water, but also dampen the aromas a little. Otherwise pretty tasty and very consistent.
    • Nose
Very intense sherry influence. Sweet sherry flavors, dark fruity raisins, figs, orange peel come together with herbs. A kind of fruit and herbal tea. Alcohol brings a slightly cooling mint with it. In addition, pleasant wood aromas, forest floor, some leather. The fruits will develop even more after a while in the glass. Strawberries and cherries are added.
    • Taste
Powerful and tingling, plenty of oak spice, not spicy despite the high alcohol content, lots of sweet sherry aromas with fruits of apricots, oranges, cherries, red bees. Honey and vanilla bring in more sweetness. Spices like pepper, cloves, a little cinnamon and ginger offer variety. A few light citrus fruits provide a certain contrast to the spices and the otherwise more intense sherry flavors.
    • Finish
long finish, black coffee, oak seasoning pushes in again. somewhat bitter and dry with roasted aromas,

A great sherry whisky. Ripe wood aromas, but nice and clean and spicy.
    • Nose
Sherry, spicy, dried fruit and especially spicy oak. Minimal sting in the nose. Very fine and very ripe, a few tart berries are still there, but tend to be sweet and spicy, with time even toffee.
    • Taste
In the mouth the same number of bitter oak aromas, rather hot. Sweet, sherry, pepper and spicy oak.
    • Finish
long, sweet sherry, toffee, then a lot of oak, tart notes without becoming tart. Bittersweet.

Sweet sherry flavors, despite the high alcohol content, not pungent but pleasantly round. A slight herbal note emerges behind sweet raisins. Now the alcohol comes through in the form of mint. With it a pleasant spiciness: darker than cinnamon but no cloves yet. Some black pepper is also included. The wood brings some vanilla and moist sawdust. I also smell ripe cherries. After some time in the glass, the fresh fruits come through even more. Maybe green apple?
    • Taste
      89 89
Sweet sherry flavors paired with dried fruits (apricots) and the typical raisins. Forest honey and vanilla mixed with red berries like strawberries and cherries. This is followed by seasoning with cloves and tannins, citrus or green apple and a few herbal notes.
    • Finish
      87 87
Honey, cherries, raisins, sherry, green apple, seasoning, sawdust, some leather and herbal notes. The finish is of medium length and gets quite dry with slightly tart notes.

    Strong, fruity, sweet sherry smell.
The taste contains a sweetness that reminds me a little of PX. Otherwise nice and strong in the mouth.
