Beautiful summer whisky that needs some time in the glass to develop.
Then there is a delicious floral, slightly fruity malt with an ever-present oak spice.
    • Nose
      87 87
Soft, gentle start but the pepper can already be guessed at and suggests a rather sharp malt on the palate. In addition, various floral notes of fresh hay, chamomile tea and sourdough. The honey sweet goes very well with the floral aromas. Some beeswax with fruit aromas of apricots and candied apples. It is vaguely reminiscent of warm apple strudel with cinnamon and sugar.
In the background there is more vanilla, caramel and some freshly roasted wood. The fruit is more passive in the nose. The alcohol is well integrated.

As expected, tingling, peppery-spicy. But only at the beginning then it becomes honey-sweet and fruity. Apple, apricot, citrus are accompanied by oak spice. More vanilla and that baked apple aroma come out. Nutty, spicy with herbs round off the malt a bit.
    • Finish
      86 86
Long finish with a slightly spicy sharpness but also somehow creamy at the same time. Vanilla and nut come through again with some fruit.

This single cask was bottled only for the German market and impresses with its fruity, spicy aroma. Smells and tastes like liquid apple strudel - sweet, creamy and spicy in equal measure. The flavours are interwoven into a complex whole, with the sweetness predominating. The addition of water is recommended, as the alcoholic warmth is tamed a little, but the wonderful fruit sweetness remains for a long time. A dram for pleasant hours in the evening.

I thank Joh. Eggers Sohn GmbH for the complimentary sample!

    • Nose
The nose reveals aromas of baked apples, sultanas, cake dough and a subtle buttery note. Smells like apple strudel with a pinch of cinnamon on top. There is also a slightly floral, perfume-like note, accompanied by some honey, caramel and a little liquorice in the background. The alcohol is well integrated.
    • Taste
Intense and powerful start on the palate with sweet vanilla, baked apples and some sultanas. In addition, a warming oak spiciness, accompanied by dry sherry and discreet nutty flavours. Full-bodied and complex.
    • Finish
The finish is long, spicy and fruity at the same time with creamy vanilla, some dry oak and a subtle nuttiness.

With water: After adding water, more floral notes on the nose, plus sherry, cinnamon, baked apples and some oak spice in the background. Pleasantly warming on the palate, but a little tamer, with sweet vanilla, baked apples, sherry and cinnamon. Seems juicier and less dry. The finish is still long, fruity and creamy with sherry, some dry oak and a slightly bitter fruit note.

A nice malt. The wood wort adds some tension is glass. I think that's good.
    • Nose
Apricots (more peel than pulp). Tart honey. Maybe remove some wax. A couple of floral hints. A little chamomile. Grain and bread notes (rather white bread or toasted butter toast). Fresh, slightly sharp wood. A couple of herbs.
    • Taste
The honey is now sweeter in the mouth. Quittengelee. Yellow apple. But the wood is also noticeable and it tingles nicely in the mouth. Wood wort. A couple of effervescent sticks and candied ginger.
    • Finish
The spiciness / sharpness now subsides and salivation occurs. A mixture of sweet and sour fruit notes. Tree sap. Then it will be dryer.
