  1. Calmar scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

Very interesting and attractive whisky, it seems like all the standard sherry derivatives with a mineral-industrial base, sufficient depth and variety of the palette, we have already seen all this dozens of times, but there is a sense of some freshness, novelty, very vigorously and dynamically, non-standard , of the minuses, it’s perhaps an exhaustive search with burnt notes, but within the acceptable range.
    • Nose
Open, moist, caustic mineral-metal and sweet burger notes dominate, dried fruits, chocolate, coffee, pipe tobacco, dusty raisins, herbarium, old furniture, burnt jam, shortbread cookies, a little haze
    • Taste
Powerful, rich, sweet-woody with sharp mineral-industrial notes, engine oil, burnt match heads, burnt branches, burnt jam, puer, burnt crackers, burnt caramel, black coffee, pipe tobacco, cola.
    • Finish
Spicy, burnt, notes of stout, burnt crackers, raisins, cola, some coal, metallic acidity, prunes.

SMWS Tasting Notes: A wonderful mix of salted toffee, golden sultanas, orange muscat dessert wine and wee flickers of old school sherry. On the other hand, the coastal vigour of the distillate charges in the background with big, wind-whipped lashes of sea spray, wet beach sand and an invigorating shot of sherry vinegar! Water unleashes seaweed, fizzy surf gathering in rock pools and oysters dunked in bitter malt beer. Yet, the sherry resurges with caramel chocolate, full fat cream and a nutty amontillado richness. The neat palate is rich with the funk of old bodegas! Mint choc chip, hessian cloth, chopped dates and salty old oloroso. Add to that liquorice, beach pebbles, chalk, heather and floral teas. Even something akin to raw, peppered mackerel. Water brings out citrus pith bitterness, lemon balm, menthol tobacco, iodine laced malt, miso broth, herbal tinctures and tiger balm! A monstrous battle between the seashore and the sherry cask with no clear victor!
