    - a good quality fruity Dest. Ed.
    - a significant increase over the standard Oban
    - but with approx. 60€ close to the limit for them
    flavor enhancement
    • Nose
      light malt, exotic fruits
    • Taste
moderate attack, fruity, nutty and very balanced taste
    • Finish
      beautiful, long, warm finish;
      medium-long aftertaste

  2. Dre73 scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Especially the nose is pretty rich, the body a bit thin. Some fruity touch and slightly peated. The cask influence is not too present.
    • Nose
      85 85
Fruity, ripe fruits, plums. Also some floral notes. Some spiciness. Pretty smooth nose. A far whiff of smoke as well.
    • Taste
      83 83
Pretty smooth, a little sparkle, a touch of peat now. Later a more sour, fruity note. A bit thin, watery mouthfeel.
    • Finish
      84 84
Still smooth, with a touch of peat. Ripe fruits. A little bitterness as well, middle long finish. Later some warming feeling in the belly.

    The Best
Oban is one of Scotland's oldest distilleries, founded in 1794, but also one of the smallest with an output of a mere 650,000 litres per year. This has everything to do with the location of course, which makes that there is no room for expansion. This also means that there is a very limited core range: the classic 14 years old, the NAS expression Little Bay that was launched in 2015 and this Distillers Edition. For Oban it means that the second maturation took place on Montilla Fino sherry casks. This is a somewhat older expression, distilled in 1998 and bottled in 2013.
The nose is absolutely amazing! The classic, maritime character from Oban, with a subtle saltiness, is completely wrapped up by sweet notes of both overripe fruit and candy. Peach, blood oranges, baked apples, candy sugar and gummy cherries. Soft hint of oak with some spices, as well as a touch of hazelnuts.
Oily and silky soft on the palate. This one is almost devoid of spices. But all the more sweetness from the fruit. Peach, apples, pineapple and even a hint of banana. Only on the second sip do I get some warmth as if from cloves and nutmeg, liquorice and even a bit of black pepper. Very, very good.
The finish is long, dark and sweet, feisty, warm... salted caramel at the death. Delicious.
By far the best and most complex of the Oban Distillers Edition that I have tried so far.

Almond marzipan. Dark chocolate light smoke and old wood combine very homogeneously. Generally I have to say that I find the standard 14 really boring. The d. Editions are a completely different caliber. The 2010 was better. But here, too, has blossomed well. At first it was very disappointing but after 5 months it got really good and we wondered o. It was the same painting. So the custom time ...

An interesting, not very simple but good malt; not very cheap!
    • Nose
      Fruits (apple, pear, grape); Salt; very subtle smoke;
    • Taste
      reserved, fruity-nutty approach; Oranges, caramel, nuts, dry, pepper, oak, complex;
    • Finish
      nice, medium-long salty, spicy finish;

Rich flavor of baking products, sweet grapes, fresh fruits (a lot of peach, apple, melon), dried apricot, a little bit salty and bitter. Taste is weaker: sweet and fruity. Finish is short and empty, little bit tart. Empty dram keeps notes of new wood and dried fruits.

  9. Calmar scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

A cool mole, from the habit of waiting for Oban oak strength in the taste and finish, but was pleasantly surprised, at first a deep and rich for 14 years flavor, and then taste, oak traditionally a lot, but somehow managed to accurately weave it into the overall picture, that he acts as a background for the mass of citrus-confectionery and sherry derivatives. Bravo, very good work, with a fairly modest endurance and commercial fortress, excellent density and depth, excellent balance, potency, bravo.
    • Nose
Open, dry, grain, wood, sawdust, processed wood, grease-oil notes - oily rags, used frying oil; light lemon-orange and floral tones, mineral motifs - stone dust, rubble, plaster; lollipops, lemonade.
    • Taste
Thick, oily, wood, lollipops, lemon, orange, tangerines, creamy confectionery notes, dried fruits, cola - a real festive extravaganza.
    • Finish
Spicy, warming, oily, ginger candied fruits, light spicy oak, orange peels, compote with citrus, burnt crackers, leavened wort, velvet beer.

Nuts and silt. Very spicy also in taste. Finish is short and does not change the taste much.

[December, 2013]  I found this dram in a commercial advents calendar.  In
my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50
    - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 85.  I
took no detailed notes and never bought a commercial advents calender
    again.

n: oban always has a little narrow profile on the nose, in this case I´d rather
call it slender. it benefits from the fino finish which did not disfigure it.
sour oranges, limestone, a few nuts, a little bit of oak. sea air, iodine
there is almost no smoke in this one.
t: lovely harmony. medium sweet with a creamy texture. the nutty side is a little
stronger than on the nose, it´s quite malty too. it´s also more coastal on the
palate. a nice salty edge and I believe the smoke is right behind.
f: not very fat, still quite long, slowly drying.
comments: oban is a brand for people who are after subtlety.
I always liked the 14yo . this one is a tad rounder. great character!

Separately, the aroma and taste are interesting, but they were not able to tie them together, so the score is 80.
    • Nose
Rich, fruity with tones of bitterish blue grapes, sherry, red apples and dried apricot. Interesting bitter-sweet aroma
    • Taste
Unlike the fragrance DRY. A brackish, light pepper and dry sherry. In itself, the taste is very good, but it drastically departs from the fragrance.
    • Finish
      Medium duration, oak-sherry-cereal.

The dilution of this whisky seems completely missed ... There were some pretty things in the nose, but the lack of peps is felt ..
    • Nose
Cashew nuts, dried fruits, caramelized almonds, black grapes, plum compote and prunes. Fairly light.
    • Taste
Sweet, round and sweet. A bit too much elsewhere. Plum jam. A little disgusting.
    • Finish
      No persistence.

A typical Oban, supplemented with a little more sherry sauce and grapes. Delicious.
    • Nose
Subtle fruitiness, grapes and raisins, sherry. Sweet and flattering like honey. Behind it apple, pear, vanilla. Also some oak, hazelnut and malt sugar can be found.
After prolonged breathing, it becomes slightly maritime with a hint of sea air, iodine and salt.
    • Taste
Slightly oily. Again fruity with orange, sherry and caramel. The nuts are also found again. Shortly afterwards a short pepperiness, salt, licorice, dark chocolate
    • Finish
Mitellang until long with raisins, oak and dark chocolate and a penchant for salt liquorice.
