Whisky Reviews for Glenlossie 2006 SV

The whisky lies in the glass with a light gold tone. 12 years in a bourbon barrel, that promises vanilla and a fruit compote with bright and exotic fruits. So go into the glass with your nose and let's go! Ok, so the first impression is very different than expected. Maritime, iodine, smoke, bacon ... drizzled with lemon juice. Bright, fresh fruits complement the variety of flavors: orange peel, grapefruit, granny smith apples, lime, pear, a little peach. The spiciness is discreetly noticeable with white pepper and a hint of nutmeg, the main character for me is a fruity-smoky sourness. Associations of a dry white wine arise. Overall, an interesting aroma load, but lacks volume and depth.

In the mouth, the whisky shakes on the palate, 59% alcohol content show their strength. The whisky sweeps stormily through the mouth with citrus, apples, salt and iodine. Pepper and nutmeg now follow much more dominantly than was the case on the nose. The smoke spreads throughout the mouth without becoming too intrusive. The wood and spiciness appear more strongly on the second sip.

The citrus remains in the finish with the smoke, some sweetness and the pepper. Oak barrel tannins are present but not bitter. The smoke and the citrus fruit stay in the mouth for a long time, the rest is gone quickly.

Overall, the whisky in my mouth is very stormy and impetuous, which suits the maritime character quite well. I lack a little more complexity and heaviness, but we have a 12 year old whisky in front of us, so you can't really expect that. The price is okay for the price. I personally don't have to have a bottle of it on the shelf. But that's always a matter of taste ????

From me there are almost 85/100 points.

Fresh & fruity, sweet with light fruits like apricot, apples, quince, elderflower syrup ... For a second I have a wonderful Sauternes in my mouth!

The whisky on the Caol ILA 25 only reminds me younger, wilder, impetuosely with more bums and more smoke the flavors are similar and just as well interwoven only more extreme and of course also sharper due to the barrel strength!

I have to try diluted to 43-46% ...
If he is just as diluted he has earned 89 points! He is getting it now, but with reservations ;-)
