an atypical Hazelburn with weird notes - very nice - already very profound for 11 years - nevertheless the Springbank distillate remains recognizable
    • Nose
      88 88
First hay and cowshed, behind it a maritime cloud of salt, honey and resin, irritating smoke from a Hazelburn (?), Wet cardboard box, gooseberry
    • Taste
      88 88
Sugar-sweet white grapes, half-ripe mountain peaches, the gooseberry again, a trace of woody lemongrass, wet, freshly sawn wood shavings in a joinery on the coast
    • Finish
      89 89
The white fruits stay on the tongue and throat for a very long time in the maritime environment

Phew - I wouldn't have expected it to be so cool. Only the finish doesn't knock me out. Very, very cool Springbank - well done.
    • Nose
      90 90
Lime zest, lemon sorbet, some vanilla, directly mineral, very close to the springbank character, slightly musty, underlaid with fine wood notes and light vanilla, great nose
    • Taste
      91 91
A lot of pressure on the tongue, creamy with vanilla and filling sweetness, minerally astringent, then again citrus peel and a little fizzy powder, an almost perfect degree of woodiness comes through between mineral and citrus-fruity tones
    • Finish
      86 86
Mineral astringent, nicely warming but also a bit too dry finish, citrus fruits, next sip

I had jumpers with less smoke, salt and brackish water than this Hazelburn! The well-known fruit notes, lots of mango in the mouth, pineapple. But what makes him special is this incredibly intense spring bench note, which is unmistakable. It has to be mentioned that the bottle has been open for a few weeks and has certainly oxidized somewhat. Great barrel!

Hazelburn is my least favorite Springbank but it's far better than the broth from most distilleries. This bottle really benefits from the char. Normally, the Hazelburns can be a bit simpletonian. This one has more going on due to the char and some very nice distilling. There's something really captivating about this run. I like it a lot even though it's still not terribly complex when compared with a Longrow for instance. I just finished my 9 year society bottle of that. Wow. So good. This one is fruity in a good way, considering it is merely bourbon wood, and imparts some very nice vanilla seed pods that coat the mouth greedily. The whisky has a very pleasing viscosity overall. And while the finish is not long it's certainly not short. Each advancing sip keeps me coming back for more. A daily dram fit for a man king, or a dragon lord such as the one who currently occupies said catbird seat. Hey now, steady on. The more otherwordly is the predator, the closer are the eyes together, with a smile that strikes fear into the hearts of mere mammals.

20cl bought from Jnpons on its bottle.

This same Jnpons said about this whisky:

    ————————————————————
    “Color: gold, golden reflections.

Nose: greedy, rocky, earthy, an old leather, syrupy side, honey, almonds, chocolate, distant notes of exotic fruits, passion, toasted peanut praline from the PARTHENAY fun fair. A little spice, and lemon.

Palate: to drink easily, without fuss, fruit, a light vanilla.

Overall: long on fruits, mango, watermelon.

Comments: opening of the bottle, well integrated alcohol. The only criticism could be that it lacks complexity ”
    ————————————————————-

To his comment, I will add, to date, the bottle having breathed, that the lack of complexity, less present, is largely counterbalanced by the pleasure that this fruity and pastry whisky provides.

    One more little thing:

    "Parthenay"? Seriously?!?

Palate: is easily drunk, without taking the head, fruit, a light vanilla.

Finish: long on fruit, mango, watermelon.

Very tasty, bright, burning, fresh and ripe drink. It is not as light and floral as drinks from Bourbon Hogsheads often are, but it is ripe, thick and viscous.
    • Nose
Honey, but not lime, but rather buckwheat, or mountain, fresh apples, but the last autumn harvest, absorbed all the summer sun, saturated with sugars and aromas, they were ripe and collected in time, pears, dark with brown rind, oak and burnt sugar, cane sugar, dates.
    • Taste
Sweet and very rich. It feels like the apples were stored among the oak leaves.
    • Finish
A long, sweet, bright aftertaste that you want to preserve.

Very powerful and fruity balanced - very good!
    • Nose
      91 91
Fresh apple, apricot, passion fruit, little citric, little minerals, hints of honey, whiffs of vanilla, spices, little cinnamon - really good!
    • Taste
      93 93
Very punchy, oily, very fruity, good sweetness, more fresh fruits, also some cantaloup, apricot jam, peche melba, in the background some minerals, limestone, lemon peel, hints of grapefruit, spices, little oak wood, little herbal - great!
    • Finish
      92 92
Long, burning, spicy, zesty, little more herbal but still fruity, just very few drops of water help to improve because of the high abv
