This one certainly is no swimmer. On the nose, adding water is ok, but
    tastewise it collapses.
    • Nose
The nose, which starts alcoholic, turns sweet on raisins, gingerbread
and candid sugar. Some sour prunes and pipe tobacco, as well as some coffee. Light
pepper. It even reminds me of a dark trappist beer! You will be hard pressed to
find the Springbank profile in this one. It is there, surely, but the sherry
cask dominates. Adding water does make a change. There is the wet plaster
      again.
    • Taste
It is almost creamy and a little piquant on the palate. Again the
typical sherry influence is there, with a lot of citrus. Very peppery. The high
ABV has something to do with that, of course. Unfortunately, it does not cope
all too well with water. It does not change the palate, but does weaken it.
    • Finish
The finish can be called long, with a bit of good will.

Freshly oiled leather, fat, fat, fermented soy products, sea salt, damp oak, toffee, orange chocolate, raisins, sour plum, black fruit, cinnamon, roasted lemongrass, ginger, tobacco.
    • Taste
      92 92
Cane sugar, grapefruit, orange peel, cream, caramel, fat, walnuts, nuts, salt, tannins, a little fireworks.
    • Finish
      92 92
Long, tar, smoked, sherry barrel oak.

  3. Gotan scored this whisky 92 points Member Senior

Whisky is very complex and pleasant, once it is well oxygenated. Just opened the bottle, definitely too closed. It is best appreciated when the level drops and a couple of months have passed.
    • Nose
      93 93
prunes, apricot, light vanilla and peaches. bitter cocoa, mon cheri
    • Taste
      92 92
Warm and full body, rather spicy. lots of black pepper, traces of cloves. Return of the apricot, next to the plum and peaches. This, without dilution.
Adding water, bitter cocoa is added and traces of espresso are added to the other notes.
    • Finish
      91 91
cocoa, coffee, tea leaves, light spicy.

Extremely spicy, predominantly red pepper that tends to cover smells and flavours. Smoke comes out a bit only at finish
