I like it very much. Longrow should be like this more often. Less creamy than usual, but as powerful as a CS 12 spring bench. Reminds me at times of the Glen Scotia Festival Ruby Port.
    • Nose
      91 91
Lots of smoke, less aromatic than typical for Longrow - but more powerful and mineral, more the spring bench smoke intensified, then strong cherry and raspberry notes, followed by citrus notes
    • Taste
      89 89
Creamy and red fruity at the beginning, then alcohol and smoke germinate, the whole thing mineral and citrus-heavy again, becoming drier and a lot of heat in the mouth
    • Finish
      89 89
The heat then produces sticky oak tones, which in particular produce red fruits again, the smoke remains on the palate for a very long time with the spice, later on it becomes increasingly bitter

A slightly bizarre encounter between Longrow and port, but good. :)
    • Nose
Exotic fruits, smoke and peat, spicy oak, salted caramel and orange peel.
    • Taste
Powerful and creamy. Forest fruits, ash, orange peel, spicy oak, peanut butter and earth.
    • Finish
      Long, spicy, fruity.

doesn't quite cohere, a bit jumbled. pass me the springbank 10yo instead please. 6/10 (barely)
    • Nose
a bit prickly at first. time and water. orange liqueur, lots of blackberry and raspberry, summer pudding, sweetish, blackcurrant too, but also a saline character which is nice. the peat goes towards a medicinal side, with plasticine too.
    • Taste
with time and water - still clearly springbank distillate - in fact it could almost pass for springbank and not longrow! nice fruitiness (peach compote, orange liqueur) and minerality (limestone). red and black liquorice. a bit metallic in the finish on the neck pour, but after time it's quite long, oily, mineral, juicy. but there's a little bit of crab stick and plasticine that does not work.

It's good, but to me 11 years of aging (or a short finish?) is just too short to get perfect flavour integration from this port cask. I would actually prefer a classic sherry maturation here.
    • Nose
      87 87
Thick greasy smoke, earthy and dirty peat, burnt grass, Hansaplast, a fruity but watery sweetness floating on top with strawberry and red fruit juice. Not inegrated perfectly but surely pleasuring.
    • Taste
      88 88
Dryer on smoke, burnt twigs, charred wood and tree bark, sweet red berries, chili pepper, slighty ashy.
    • Finish
      87 87
Long: sweet red fruit, liquorice, black pepper, scorched wood.

This points to Campbeltown quite instantly. Could not be anything other then something from the Springbank facilities. Turns out it’s a Longrow, what a surprise :)
    • Nose
Great and intense nose! It’s dirty, peaty, smoky but also sweet. Port cask did it’s job leaving quite some sweetness like plumbs, fresh dates, and juicy raisins. The somewhat oaky and earthy signature is definitely present and works well with the load of sweetness.
    • Taste
More youthfulness gets to me. It’s like the cask didn’t leave that big of a signature on the palate as it did on the nose. It did leave sweetness but it the spirit tends to dominate for me. With water I get a little more balance but it doesn’t bring me to a state of excitement to be honest.
    • Finish
The finish is medium/long but that’s thanks to the peat for the most part. More of the flavors I got in the nose a little earlier come back again and the play between the raw and peaty character and the port cask sweetness work well again.

All together quite a pleasant dram but in my opinion not something I would easily empty a bottle of.
