Whisky Reviews for Teaninich 1999 Arc

Strange to see 8 'lazy' reviews without one proper tasting note. Let's do something about that! Teaninich is a workhorse distillery without any stardom. In my experience IB-bottings can be very nice. This one doesn't disappoints either, though it's a very 'greenish' and leafy Scotch whisky in my view. Fun to taste. Kudos to the WB boys that they have the guts to bottle these whisky's from relatively unknown distilleries for the general public. Also good to see that the average rating of this whisky with a 'difficult' profile is quite high. And guess what? You can still buy a bottle! What you're waiting for?
    • Nose
Interesting nose with lots of leafy notes mixed with apple mint. To be more precise: grassiness of heather and hay. Flowery notes of geraniums and freesias. Granny Smith apples and some coffee green. Wet stones and touch of chalk as well. Gentle pipe smoke of cigar boxes at the background. It's all very fresh and lively.
    • Taste
Again 'greenish' aldehydic notes of artichokes, thyme and barley sugar. Followed with eucalyptus and nettle. But also peel zest and citric hints of kiwi, lemon and lime. Beautiful lingering grapefruit bitter-sweetness later on. It's definitely not an easy profile for an average whisky drinker but I like it! There's quite some complexity in it.
    • Finish
Medium long. Spices of white pepper. Pine at the end. From a technical point of view perfectly balanced.

  2. HammerHead scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Head to head with Claxton's cask 307946 of the same distillation date. I find them to be quite similar. This one is a little sweeter (sugary), creamier and less vegetal, but it's a close call. It's a fine dram, though in my opinion just too expensive compared to the Claxton's (I'm guessing too much was paid for the cask).

Buttercream with sugar and vanilla, fruity, a bit floral, sugarbread, cookie dough, a touch of honey, apple, pear, white melon, green tea, gooseberry, some sweet citrus, slightly grassy and some dusty note of oak wood.
    • Taste
      89 89
An oily and creamy mouthfeel, sparkling with a clear alcoholic pinch, vanilla, sugarbread, mild honey, white fruits, sweet citrus, quite some pepper, ginger and even a slight note of cinnamon.
    • Finish
      88 88
Medium length: vanilla, bread crums, ginger, pepper, drying on the palate.
