I had absolutely no expectations of this bourbon and am pleasantly surprised. Very tasty and tasty. That it is more in the spicy, rye-heavy side makes it interesting. He's not boring. At this price, it is a clear buy recommendation for those who want to get away from the smooth bourbons but don't want a rye in their glass right away.
    • Nose

The bourbon is copper-colored, the tears run down slightly oily at longer intervals. The first nose, the very first time you sniff it, shows itself with a subtle hint of glue, as is often found with bourbons. But it disappears quickly and behind it it becomes surprisingly spicy. Interesting, almost smells like a rye. Caramel and vanilla show up clearly. The alcohol shows up again and again, despite only 46% alcohol.
    • Taste
      85 85
The 1776 comes with a short, sweet, slightly honey-like start that changes very quickly into a strong, spicy rye-dominated taste. So if the bourbon is so clearly on the rye side, how strong does the rye have to be? Vanilla is also present along with the seasoning.
    • Finish
      84 84
The end is spicy and slightly bitter. The rye aroma stays in the mouth a little longer, otherwise the finish is at most medium-long.

Not a typical bourbon on the nose, soft and expressive on the tongue at the same time, very attractive finish.

Similar to the Wild Turkey 101, which is 10 euros cheaper and, with its 4.5% more alcohol, is even more intense. Otherwise good standard bourbon.

Vanilla with woodruff, citrus fruits, nut notes and oak aromas.

Vanilla with oak aroma, nut notes, woodruff and citrus fruits.

Long with vanilla, oak aroma, woodruff, citrus fruits and notes of nuts.

  5. marmeladow scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

varied, well-made bourbon that I have enjoyed again and again. The 38% rye content in the mash gives it a nice strength and flavor. For me the tastiest with a good 10 minutes standing in the glass and a few drops of water
    • Nose
Initially dominant alcohol, which then makes room for a pleasant mixture of vanilla, oak, rye, cloves and a hint of citrus fruit. At best to guess at glue notes
    • Taste
Powerful in the beginning with pepper, cloves and maybe also cinnamon. Next to it and later becoming clearer. creamy sweetness, vanilla, caramel and some tangerines
    • Finish
good medium length, spicy and pleasantly warming. A certain bitter note is well combined with the vanilla and the spice

  6. g00se scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

Smooth bourbon, which is more on the spicy-spicy side. The 46% are in good shape, could use a few more percent.
There is a strange odor in the nose for a short time.
    • Nose
      84 84
Spicy on the sweet and bitter side. With notes of caramel, vanilla and a noticeable glue note. Hela spice ketchup delicate.
Very soft and round, unless you smell too strong, then the alcohol pokes in the nose.
    • Taste
      86 86
Soft and soft to start with aromas of caramel and vanilla, followed by a little glue. Then the spicy oak spreads vigorously in the mouth.
      Viscous and medium-heavy body.
    • Finish
      83 83
      Short. Tingling. Spicy.
