Very subtle Dalmore. Modern days Dalmore is quite a heavy and sherried punch in the face most of the time. This one is far from that. It’s not a sherry cask, it’s a bourbon maturation. It’s got finesse, it’s soft and well balanced. Fruity on the nose. Flavors very well integrated. Especially the taste and finish are remarkably well! Delicate taste with lots of room for ripe fruit, mild spices and bourbon influences. Finish gives subtle wood influences, honey, tropical fruits and heavy spices.
I had the privilege to taste this one H2H with his neighbor: a 1977 Glenmorangie. Against all odds the Glenmorangie blew this one away in terms of full body, flavor explosion, complexity and intensity. Is this Dalmore that bad then? Nope it’s really good, that Glenmorangie was just out of this world.
