    The fact that springbanks can work with strong sherry and wood influences can be seen from many of the bottlings in recent years.
    Unfortunately not here. The sister barrels # 33X were all bottled much earlier and even with them the influence of sherry and wood was marginal.

    The mouth is obviously rich and sweet, with a heavy and sweet sherry body, the sweetness of candied candied dried fruit, the candied dried apricot and peach fruit, the sweetness of milk ester honey, which fills the mouth and makes people happy and happy. Sweet, comprehensive nectar, honey baked pudding cake, the wine is thick and the overall performance is quite clean and balanced, it tastes comfortable and sweet but not greasy, and it ends with a bitter sweet dark chocolate.

    The finish of the rhyme is medium to long, and the whole mouth has always been the sweetness of candied dried fruit, candied apricot and peach dried fruit, nectar, honey baked pudding cake, ripe melon fruit brought by high-quality sherry barrels. .

    Springbank 25 years Single Cask is a rarity these days, unfortunately. I didn't want to miss the opportunity. 3cl sample.

    In the beginning almost horrible, as much too woody sherrywuchtig, I would have given him a maximum of 80 points, but you get used to it.

    But as soon as you compare him head-to-head with a more balanced, but also intense dark sherry (in this case I compared him to Longmorn 1996 (vanWees / 'The Ultimate' / 1996/2013 / Cask # 72324 / 57.4%), the wooden fist is immediately slapped in the face again and the one-sidedness shown in. Too dry, too bitter, too woody, too fast-sprittig-over-sherry ?? ** - intensive Complexity and fine traits Absolutely no subtlety!

    ** And on the topic "Übersherry": Hmmm, I would not like to talk about "Übersherry" anymore, because the "Sherryblume" does not really develop here, because it is superimposed on woody-bitter-intense. The intensity comes thus rather secondary to the "dark sherry" but primarily from the strong tannins and wood notes, coupled with the high alcohol content.

    In direct comparison with the (admittedly ingenious) Longmorn this Springbank / 1993/2018 is really terrible, little depth / complexity to none. In contrast, wood tannin pure and uncomplex fast-sprittigkeit. The Longmorn, however, is also very fruity, which the Springbank / 1993/2018 completely missing.

    It gets even worse when you add some water. Then everything is just woody and you notice the one-dimensionality even more clearly.
    That he lands with me at over 80 points, is because he is not boring, because he is undoubtedly intense brutal.

    PS:
    But one question: What good Masterblender makes a whisky so long in the barrel? A good Masterblender (and Springbank has excellent Masterblender) will put the whisky in the bottles when its zenith is reached in the barrel. In the Longmorn, this has succeeded ingeniously, because at the age of 17 he was filled in the bottles. If you had bottled it today at the age of 23, it would probably be too woody too. Aging in barrels does not make every whisky ever better, there is a tipping point, after which it can become worse again. And this tipping point is recognized by good Masterblender.

    I suppose that you took this Springbank only with 25 years age from the barrel to achieve an extremely high price. Because Springbanks with 25 years and more are now very expensive. Unfortunately, only the printed age counts, the taste and the intrinsic quality are secondary. Often, these whiskys are not opened at all, but dust away as a collector's item or a speculative object. Then the taste is really unimportant, then it all makes sense ... ;-).
