Well, well .... 8-year-old Ben Bracken surprised me very positively ????. First, its price is PLN 69.99. For such a low price, you get 8-year-old MS, which in my opinion is very pleasant both in taste and overall assessment. What did not suit me ... a) Color - beautiful to the eye, amber, but so beautiful that it is impossible to obtain in a natural way. b) Aroma - very diluted, which becomes less expressive after a long wait in the glass.
Pros ... apart from the price, very well hidden alcohol. I feel it practically little, the taste is surprising, not as expected in whisky for this price ... delicate, subtle, not repulsive. There is smoke, there is a bit of medicine and there is fruit freshness, not too much, but sufficient.
Whisky would certainly be a good start for people who want to try to enter the world of Islay liquor.
I was tempted to do it despite the fact that one friend from this portal ???? told me to "ignore" them (Lidl) and I don't regret it. It's best not to listen and cut off from "fake" advisers ????????????????If I get a second bottle, I will definitely want to buy it.

.... After some time ... A tiny sampelek ... Now it has a different taste. I feel a bit more of these medical nuances and less fruit, but that doesn't take my note of it.

The whisky from the discounter. In this case an 8 year old Ben Bracken. With 40% and from Islay.

    Price performance top.
    • Nose
Phenolic campfire smoke with notes of peat, citrus fruits and a maritime note.
    • Taste
Stronger than on the nose, slightly maritime, earthy, spicy smoke with now some ash.
    • Finish
Very long with peat and smoke.

Wet wood, nutty, coal, smokey, matured banana
    • Taste
      80 80
Old wood, smokey, a little bit acidity, nutty
    • Finish
      79 79
      Small nutty and smokey

  7. TomAndIngrid scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

Nice to drink is also fun, but at 40% it tastes a bit watered down.
    • Nose
Yes smoke! ... it doesn't whistle so clean, but for 40% Alc. it is OK. It's not a medical or chemical smoke, not even as ashy, more like wood smoke. In the background there is something sweet and a ripe, peeled apple.
    • Taste
At the beginning the apple, smoke very cautious, then after 3 sec. the smoke develops and we are on our way to the exit.
    • Finish
The smoke lies comfortably in the mouth, but disappears rather quickly.

    • Nose
      76 76
Malty, young, medium-strong, slightly spicy / medicinal smoke (difficult to classify but tasty - rather a laphi with little boom), unripe banana, caramel, quite thin and simply because of its 40%.
    • Taste
      84 84
Huih stronger than the nose and the 40% suggest - also more wood than in the nose, fresh malt, espresso bitterness, apricots, lots of pepper and slightly maritime, earthy, spicy smoke with now a little ash (now heading towards the east coast). Wow is it delicious in taste.
    • Finish
      82 82
A honey sweetness paired with dark malty bread and ashy smoke lingers for a long time. The nose is very "simple and easy" but it explodes in the mouth and is now really fun - great for the price!
