My comments refer to trying this without adding water. I like the fact that there are other elements to tease out and reminisce about, breakfast toast, Sunday lunch. Interestingly I think for this style of whisky I like the finish the most and this is probably because heavily sherry-influenced whiskies very rarely stick the landing for me. This one does a good landing but I am less convinced about what comes before.

I tried it with probably too much water as well and it is more like watery gravy with Bovril or marmite so a bit of a mess, so I will stick with the neat impression.

If you like heavy Oloroso whisky then this will be something to consider, especially if you are a fan of some of the SFTCs from Edradour. For me, this is one of the better whiskies - not too dry, not too tannic, but one glass is generally enough for me.

sherry but not convinced yet it is Oloroso, cough linctus, slight vegetable note, marmite - yes quite yeasty; baked apples trying to get through the dominant notes

sideboard, dry yes Oloroso now and that marmite is back along with burnt gravy from Sunday roast
    • Finish

a nice tarry finish with some spice and that cough mixture returns; it avoids going very dry - there are some sugars leavening the finish which is appreciated
